All this does make you wonder what life with him as a husband and a father was like. His wife stuck with him for over 26 years. [In looking at his wiki](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel_Gibson) he really does have a fairly impressive body of work. You have to seriously wonder how he could be so successful if he was such an insane and abusive asshole to people. It’s a puzzlement. ---

Did something happen to him in the last few years that could’ve caused this? I mean his separation from his wife sounds like it was a symptom of his problems, not the cause. It’s hard to believe this level of unhinged psychotic rage could have been kept secret all these years. Even as late as the early 2000’s he was publicly making comments that made him sound rational, if conservative. Even his early antigay comments sound to me to be ignorant and childish, not hateful. Is it possible that some type of brain disorder could cause this? I mean that seriously, because he is just completely unglued in those tapes.
