James Buchanan moved into the White House with his “valet” (i.e. partner) and had a lady friend named Harriet Lane, after which a large pediatric clinic in Baltimore was later named, accompany him to official functions. IIRC, there was another unmarried president who had a female relative as an escort, and then he married so he didn’t need her for that purpose any more. Taft, maybe? That Melania and Barron aren’t planning to move into the White House doesn’t bother me in itself. What does bother me are the security measures that will be needed, although I don’t think any of them really care about how much they’re inconveniencing the neighbors. ---

Slightly off topic (and I’m sure it’s been raised in other threads/venues) but does that poor kid look like the most miserable 10 yr old in the world? (Can’t be fucked searching yada yada) If getting away from this whole debacle (by staying in NY and not living with Daddy) will cheer him up a bit then I’m all for it. ---

The White House has a nice apartment for the First Family–but it’s hardly as large & ornate as the Trump homestead. - Well, _my_ city didn’t vote for him either. Most cities didn’t. ---
