Memo to Iranian government, re: 300

It´s been two months since I arrived to Bangkok, I´m currently living in Udomsuk road close to Central Bagna, and working on Rama IX road, Soi 17…
I wouldn´t like to highjack this fine thread (to the Iranian leadership: Nuts!), I´ll send you a PM later.

I think that had to do with the slyly reversed historical inaccuracies. Specifically

  1. A scene in which American colonists were boarded up in a church to which the British then set fire. Although I am without a citation for this one, I recall rading that the Americans did this (perhaps to Tories?) and the British did not – therefore they were somewhat put out to see the descendants of the perpetrators reversing the crime in a feel-good movie.

  2. The Americans are depicted as offering freedom to black slaves who fight against the British. See Wikipedia for a citation. Again, in that pesky real life, the British made such an offer to slaves who fought for their side; the Americans wouldn’t get around to it ever, really, although (already) free blacks were formed into untis in the American Civil War, as depicted in the movie Glory.

So the Brit grumbling wasn’t because they were the bad guys – it was because we took credit for their good deed and foisted off our own atrocity as their work.

Mine were portrayed sympathetically, but for no apparent reason. I’m still looking for the office I complain to about that.
