Summer, 1984. I received my first ‘real’ _Le Tigre_ (not the walrus, kangaroo, buffalo, or rat but a real TIGER. And you guessed it, it was pink. Not salmon, light purple, periwinkle, or any other more manly shade. It was pink. Very pink. And boy did I love that shirt. Who wouldn’t? I thought I looked just like the guys in Duran Duran with my cool mod haircut and Bugle Boy pants. Wore it proudly on the first day of school (8th grade) where I promptly fell off of my bike and into the freshly oiled teacher parking lot. Moral of the story? Oil doesn’t wash out of pink shirts. Not even your favorite. You want to wear pink. I say go ahead, you’ll look just like the guys in Duran Duran. ---

The last time I saw ties with cartoon characters on them, I was in middle school. I think a substitute teacher wore it. Wait. It didn’t have cartoon characters on it. It had Star Trek characters on it. As much as I like Star Trek, I think my immediate reaction was “Blah!” “Spock…on…beer-belly…stomach…does…not…compute…” The sub was a nice guy though. But sometimes, I have to wonder what happens when these men walk out of the bedroom. Do their wives hide the giggles behind their coffee? Did they have an argument the night before, and not censoring his bad taste is her way of getting back at him? Note to self: Marry man with no cartoon or Star Trek experience. SUPERKARLENE ---

I remember when I was 10 seeing my friend Julian wearing a pink shirt with a white cardigan. He was cool, kind of Italian looks, good at football, all the girls fancied him, and anything he wore had to be fashionable. But I was like – boy wearing pink – does not compute. I was genuinely very shocked. Nowadays I don’t wear pink generally because I suit darker colours, but I wouldn’t see anything wrong with it. I just wonder if it’s Kaotic Newtral’s thinking that explains why so many men seem to work on the “any color as long as it’s blue” philosophy when it comes to choosing clothes. Because blue for a boy, and stuff. Cartoon ties are very sad. If you’re wearing a tie, you are not wacky and funloving, no matter what you have on the tie. ---

Ties with cartoon characters in a subtle pattern aren’t as bad as ties with big cartoon characters at the bottom of the tie. That’s just beyond tacky. The former is just, well, at least _trying_ not to be tacky. ---

I actually prefer dark greens to blue but I wear a lot of blue. I do agree with the tie thing though, if you’re trying that hard to be wacky and carefree it may be time to give up. I like(love) cartoons as much as the next person but if it ain’t halloween I’m not wearing ‘Taz’ on anything(ahem…'cept maybe some cool boxers). ---

Boxers are alright - just so long as you’re not one of those goofy teenage guys who lets his shorts/jeans/pants sag down to mid-thigh, exposing his boxers for all the world to see. Don’t get me wrong. Boxers are hot stuff. But they’re supposed to be UNDER the pants, not WITH the pants. ---
