I’ve used Right Guard spray for decades, and I’m happy with it. But sometimes I wonder if it’s really nothing more than aerosolized alcohol. Would I really get the same benefit, all in all, with just ordinary alcohol (liquid, gel, whatever?)

Here in Thailand, antiperspirants simply don’t work. You’re going to sweat like a pig year-round, period. And then the chemicals from the antiperspirant stain your shirts all to hell! Deodorants similarly stain shirts.

But what I’ve found is that “body sprays” do work at keeping away unpleasant odors while not staining shirts. Try that.

Tom’s of Maine for me, but I like the [Calendula](http://www.tomsofmainestore.com/product/soothing-calendula-stick) scented variety, though the unscented also works well.

If I didn’t know about Drysol, I would vote for Mitchum - the cream in the little tub that you apply digitally.

Drysol works, Period.

If you can get past the bit of irritation and rash the first few times you use it, it will eventually last for months at a time and actually I haven’t needed to use antiperspirant or deodorant for around 3 years now. The irritation can be pretty intense, you need to use it at night and you may have a sleepless night but it’s worth it… use it on a weekend.

I use Old Spice Sweat Defense, which is a soft white antiperspirant that goes on easier than other antiperspirants. I can’t use anything that is clear solid or gel based, as I have severe burning sensations after about a week or two of use with one of those, which rules out almost all regular deodorants, so I use antiperspirants. I also am a heavy sweater, and the Sweat Defense has worked better than most for me.

It is also one that uses Aluminum Zirconium Trichlorohydrex GLY 19%, like most of the highly recommended brands here.

> I think the general definitions are that deodorants are meant to mask the smell while antiperspirants are meant to help stop you from sweating.

Deodorants are meant to _counteract_ odoriferous bacteria. Perfumes mask. Commercial deodorant formulas often contain perfumes also but need not.

Antiperspirants temporarily block natural perspiration, and there can be a rebound effect.

Cool, thanks for that clarification.

I’ve just begun using Dove in a format called Dry Spray. Works nicely.
