In Korea, barbershops with two poles offer far more than a haircut in the back. Same for some coffee delivery services. ---

When I get my hair cut, my first criterion in selecting someone, and by a wide margin, is “are they good at cutting hair”. > > It’s distressing how far the bar for male culture has been lowered. Well, at least here in CA, getting a cosmetologist license is not a license to make money. In fact, often they have to pay the business, ie “rent a station.” So, plenty of job seekers, few jobs. Men tip more and are easier to please. Of course you do have the risk of getting hit on. That is indeed, my barbershop. ---

Lady Jane’s, huh? The first thing I think of when I hear the name is Lady Jane Grey. She was Queen of England for Nine days in 1553, between Edward VI and Mary Tudor. I wrote a play about her once. She was also the subject of a movie starring Helena Bonham Carter, Captain Picard and a pre-_Princess Bride_ Cary Elwes. Lady Jane was packed off the prison by Mary Tudor, but when her followers revolted and caused a lot of trouble, Mary thought it was prudent to nip any more possible coups in the bud, and had her beheaded. Why is a person’s love of boobs assumed to be inextricably linked to that person’s love of sports TV? But what do I know? My idea of a good haircut is a “Numero Seis” while making a hand motion around my head, the last time without noticing the barberess was an Angla. “You mean a Number Six all around?” “Si, er, yes.” And she, like everybody else, still insisted on taking her time, _styling it, FFS_. It was nice–as a higher primate I enjoy getting groomed–but needlessly complex. ---

I will bet you that there’s a pretty high correlation, even if there are some breast aficionados who aren’t sports fans, and vice-versa. If a restaurant offers food, and beer, and sports, and attractive waitresses it gives them a way to distinguish themselves from the places that just have food, beer, and sports. How long is the average man in a barber shop, anyway? Not very long! Even if the barber is a gorgeous nude female, you’re not going to see much, and you’re not going to see it for long. Besides, in this day and age, when ANY kind of porn is available in seconds, what’s the attraction? ---

In Austin, there was a place for a few years called Sexy Scissors on North Lamar.
