Yes it does. It only makes it fat if you carry a lot of change. When I pay cash for things I give change as required to keep my change stocks low. my change at the moment consists of 1 x $1 coin, 1 x 20c, 2 x 10c, and 6 x 5c. It doesn’t bulge much more than when it’s empty. I should add that it’s rare for me to pay cash for something, I don’t think I’ve used cash for the last two and a half weeks at least.
