Cheesy commercials. My vote was for the woman that used to bark “Where’s the beef?” (for Wendy’s) ANd the other one I can’t stand is when the old woman falls and says “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” ---

I can see the attraction of starting an "Ask the . … " thread. I think we would all like to believe that our knowledge is not entirely useless. I can’t do an “Ask the Financial Advisor” because of ethics rules and liability. I could do an “Ask the Rare Book Dealer”. Somehow I don’t think that would pique the board’s interest for very long. ---

I’ve tossed this one because I can’t get the OP to work the way I want it too. “ **International Citizen Exchange** ” Countries would gain or lose points based on people they’ve exported or acquired. Like USA gets Mel Gibson, USA +10, AUS -10 or Madonna moves to UK, UK -15, USA +15. It should be funny but however I type it, it just comes out boring. ---

I was going to post in GQ about why “It was a dark and stormy night” is known to be a poor way to start a novel, but I thought it through and came up with A) It’s just too cliched, B) It’s too general–“dark and stormy” has poor description, and C) It’s redundant–almost all nights are dark, so this gives no new information. **fruitbat** , I might possibly find questions to “Ask the rare book dealer.” ---

BuckleberryFerry, did you know - perhaps you did - that there’s a contest based on that “It was a dark and stormy night” phrasing? The phrase itself was popularized by Charles Schulz, but now we have the Bulwer-Lytton ([http://www.sjsu.edu/depts/english/2003.htm](http://www.sjsu.edu/depts/english/2003.htm)) contest, which annually asks its participants to submit the most purple prose they can come up with. ---

I want, so badly I can taste it, to start a “what part of a really bad movie do you love?” thread. I’m sure it’s been done before. I’m watching **Pearl Harbor** as I write this, of course. I love the attack scenes, amazing - and the rest of the movie is idiotic. ---

i was going to start a thread about assholes that ogle and catcall on the street and what they hope to accomplish by doing it ( i mean has any EVER gotten a date that way?) but i decided that either no one would care or i would come off as some kind of up-tight prude. the end. ---

I was going to start a thread in which all of the text in every post would (hopefully) be entirely enclosed within spoiler tags. The thread would have a title like “Warning: MAJOR spoilers inside!” and my OP would just consist of some silly comments about spoilers in general, all within a spoiler box. People would respond with other silly, wisecracking, off-the-wall, or otherwise humorous comments, all also within spoiler boxes. I decided against it after reading in the FAQ that excessive use of the spoiler tags was frowned upon. I figured that if I did start the thread, it would probably just get me warned, and the thread closed, after only a few posts.
