My son may be 8, but he was still no match for his old man in the feats of strength. Those extra 175 pounds make all the difference in the world, believe me. ---

I enjoyed the company of nine 13-year olds joining my twins for a LOUD birthday party. One of the kidlets has a 22 Dec birthday, and my twins are Christmas Eve babies, so we split the difference. Trampolining, ice skating, snacks, fired up the K Machine, helium ballon inhalin’, Xbox Kinnect dancing, serenaded at least half of Hamilton, dinner, pretty serious hide and seek throughout the house. The last mother daughter combo still here are singing Karaoke right now. A great time had by all. ---

We spent all day yesterday cooking soups. Seven years ago my gf suggested having my family over on xmas eve. Her idea was to make six soups for dinner, along with assorted appetizers. We ordered 30 soup mugs from Pottery Barn, so everyone would get to keep their mug and we’d have fewer dishes to do. Everyone helps themselves to soup, trying each soup then trying them again. It was a ton of work, but I thought it would be a once in a lifetime/decade ordeal. Instead, everyone enjoyed it so much that they asked for a repeat the next year. This year is the seventh consecutive xmas eve soupfest. I’m setting up the beer-on-ice on the patio now, six assorted cases. The fireplace is ready to light, and my fancy bong is polished. We have guest beds made up, sleeping bags ready, and xmas breakfast and lunch prepped and ready to serve as well.
