I notice from his profile that \*\*David \*\* hasn’t been online for about 10 days. I know he said posting wasn’t easy and would only get harder; do we have anyone who could give us updates on his condition should he become unable to do so himself? ---

[/QUOTE] I don’t know if I’d even want that, unless he has a miraculous recovery or still enjoys posting here. Updates on a deteriorating condition would not serve any purpose. A simple announcement at the end of his journey would suffice for me. Aside from that I hope David still is able and wants to post here. It need not be “updates” only, he has lots to share apart from his current health issues. ---

I am one of David Simmons nephews. Either one of my brothers or I will inform the group when the time comes. I got news from his daughter that he is sleeping most of the time now, and resting comfortably. David (Uncle Cook to us) is really a great guy. One of the best, and straight from the middle of the greatest generation. From my earliest memories, I have always felt that way about him. Square, straight and honorable. Smart, too. **Tim Shea** , the system will only let you be a guest for 30 days, and then it will demand payment to be a member. (This is supposed to change soon, but we don’t know exactly when.) There’s a thread [you can reach with this link](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=415370&page=7&pp=50) where people can ask to be sponsored as members if they can’t/won’t pay for themselves; I’m sure someone would be happy to pay for you to have a membership so you can keep us up to date on **David Simmons** ’ journey. And, you know, you might just find us a pleasant place to stick around yourself! We don’t bite…much! 😃 ---

While it is not surprising to hear that you don’t anticipate needing more than the 30 day membership, **Tim Shea** , I’m still sorry to hear it. I’m glad to hear your uncle is resting comfortably. Thank you for offering to come and let us know when the end comes. Our thoughts are with you, and your family, during this time.
