I cannot imagine ever paying for something like this. I cannot imagine I’d like this as a gift. Peeps amaze me. I’m gonna take a poll around here, with the younger ones and see what they have to say. ---

During covid lockdown times, I had a weekly zoom call with a small friend group. One of them was given a Cameo video for his birthday from Tim Capello, the saxophone guy in the Lost Boys. He’s probably our fave character from our fave shows ever, and we are just finishing up rewatching the boxed sets we own. My wife needs/wants nothing. If she wants something - whether inexpensive or pricey - she buys exactly what she wants, without waiting for it to be a gift on a specific day. We’ve recently been successfully purging stuff from our past, and she expressly told me she doesn’t want me spending much on her. We both DETEST just spending $ on “stuff” that we will only have to decide to get rid of later. And she’s been attentive to her health, so I’m not gonna just buy her booze, candy, etc. So for under $70, I’m going to be able to give her something that will make her smile, won’t take up any space in the house, and she’ll be able to share it with our kids and close friends who we know enjoy Buffy. Hard for me to imagine a better way to spend $70. What WOULD you like as a gift? No, there aren’t a ton of other folk she’d like to hear from, but I think this is a great idea for folk in situations similar to me. I wonder how quickly someone who is/was a relatively well-known can turn these around at $50-70 a pop. I guess if I were just lying around the house, and could make 50 for 5 minutes work, I might. But then again, I might not if I didn't really need the and didn’t enjoy doing it. I’ll post back when I get the vid. They say it’ll come in 7 days. Which again makes me wonder about the celebs’ schedules/lifestyles. ---

I wouldn’t want one as a gift but I could see giving one to someone and I know lots of people who would love something like that. I wish they had it when I was dating one particular ex-gf. She would have lost her mind to have one from one of her favorite musicians. ---

I’m the sort who would never ask for an autograph, who would ignore Paul McCartney if he came into a restaurant. Possibly if I regarded someone as brilliant, and believed they were laboring without acclaim or money, I might walk over and say I loved their work. My wife (for whom I ordered a Cameo B-day greeting) is slightly different. When she was a 17 y.o. teenage jazz fusion fan, she drove down to a riverfront music venue because she wanted to meet the band, which included Jaco Pastorius (a legendary figure with mental and alcohol issues). She ended up hanging with Jaco for several hours and watching him pass out drunk. (As far as I know, my wife was not a ‘groupie’.) After we bought 2024 tickets to see the ByGones (Joshua Lee Turner endeavor referenced in a previous post), the venue began offering Meet & Greet tickets for $20 more. My wife said ‘Maybe we should get those’ (I had already ordered 6 tickets so we could invite some friends). I told her Meet & Greets were mostly bogus. I was baseing that on working as the photographer at a Michael McDonald show, where the Meet & Greet swells were herded in for a handshake and few quick words while I posed the groups and snapped the picture. Next group please. It might not always be that way, but I have trouble imagining meaningful interaction between fans and professional musicians just about to go on stage. OTOH, many less famous bands don’t mind talking to people after the show. For free. My wife conceded the point, but did not look happy about it. And when I remembered seeing a Youtube video some one had posted – about a 2-min video of a message Josh Turner had created for them, a light bulb appeared above my head. I found Cameo (which I had sorta heard of when Rudy Giuliani was selling himself there.) It brought my dear wife hours of happiness, and I was giddy knowing how surprised she was going to be. ---

Well, that’s nice. Seems like an enjoyable thing. I just couldn’t do it. I wouldn’t want to get one. I don’t care what musicians have to say unless I like their singing voice and the music, itself. Comedians? Ehh, they’ve already said it, I’ll bet. Influencers, political persons? Big Nope Anybody my family would want a message from either doesn’t do this thing or they’re dead. As a special thing between people I can see it has some value. Not for me, tho’ ---

It makes me a little sad to see how old Andrew Robinson looks on Cameo. Though I suppose I rarely saw him out of makeup. And a lot of actors that I’m slightly surprised to see on there. Pocket money, I guess. ---

I only rarely watched Supergirl, but Melissa Benoist seems like such a sweet lady I almost want to buy a video from her. I can imagine these videos can lead to some severe parasocial issues, though. ---

Well, I was increasingly worried after I bought it a couple of weeks ago, up until last night thinking, “She’ll think it a stupid waste!” But James Marsters was a total hit. Well worth $50. (I think she almost shed a tear!) I wrote a little note saying “Have you checked your email lately?” and wrapped it in a box, so she had something to see under the tree and to open this morning. Then I wrote up an email including the message and sent it to her first thing this morning. When she said when was going to get her computer check her email, I innocently asked if she would like to open her present. Like I said, well worth $50 to put a smile on the face of someone who needs/wants NOTHING and strongly wishes not to bring more STUFF into our home. (She got me absolutely nothing - which is what I wanted. Bah! Humbug!). 😃 ---
