# Metafilter on cultural appropriation: when the lunatics run the asylum

[This Metafilter thread](http://metatalk.metafilter.com/23891/We-need-to-have-a-discussion-about-racism) is a discussion about site discussions of cultural appropriation.

It runs for hundreds of comments, bans users, is hysterically intolerant of any deviation from PC orthodoxy, and is absolutely typical of how the site now works.

It’s an interesting comparison to SDMB.

So, in general, we don’t allow threads that are just, “Look at how stupid this other message board is.” Particularly, if they find out about this thread (like, say, because people from here go ever there and start shit), then they come over here to fuck up our stuff, and it’s just a big mess that makes everything worse for everybody. So we don’t allow that sort of thing. No warning issued, but please avoid starting threads like this in the future.
