A lot of what I like has already been listed, but what the heck. None of this is listed in any particular order. **Power Metal:** Nevermore Rhapsody/Rhapsody of Fire Blind Guardian Helloween Evergrey Nightwish **Progressive Metal:** Symphony X Ayreon Dream Theater Pain of Salvation Green Carnation **Doom:** My Dying Bride Swallow the Sun Anathema Katatonia Shape of Despair Novembers Doom Dark Suns Saturnus **Goth:** Theater of Tragedy Tristania Sirenia Virgin Black Atrox The Gathering Madder Mortem Within Temptation Therion Empyrium **Death Metal:** Opeth Arch Enemy Opeth Amorphis Gorguts Meshuggah Agalloch Bloodbath Moonspell Arch Enemy **Thrash:** (Kind of hard to say, modern Thrash is so diluted with so much influence from other genres, particularly Death Metal and Power Metal) Into Eternity Iced Earth Metallica Shadows Fall Beyond the Embrace God Forbid Dark Tranquility In Flames **Black Metal:** Dimmu Borgir Emperor Antestor Unexpect Samael Sigh Ulver I probably forgot a whole rack of stuff and I didn’t want to list any bands more than once, so I tried to put them under the one I most associate them with. I’ve also tried to get away from the VERY specific classification that a lot of people get into (eg, “Viking Metal”, “Melodic Death Metal”, “Symphonic/Epic Power Metal”, etc.). I also left off some of the genres I’m just not a huge fan of (most notably Grind), but I could give a few recommendations there too, I suppose. ---

My Own Victim (best Kentucky metal band ever) Nazareth Nebula Opeth Orange Goblin (Healing Through Fire was an amazing album) Pantera Pig Destroyer Pig Iron Porcupine Tree (my vote for most amazing band in a decade goes to either PT or Opeth) Primer 55 Helmet Prong Rage Rage Against The Machine Refused Stormtroopers Of Death Nothingface Sevendust Showdown Stavesacre (90s only, they are too pop for my tastes nowadays) Stooges Subrosa Sugartooth Suicidal Tendencies Supersucker Unearth Union Underground Valient Thorr Venom Voivod Wastefall White Zombie Zeke 400 Blows ftr, i’m an old fart and i also listen to a lot of “old school” metal and such, but I’m not into power metal (Maiden, etc.) if it’s fast, loud, distorted, angry and/or disaffected, I’ll be interested enough to give it a listen the current thrash revival is AMAZING and for those of you looking to expand your Metallic Horizons (band name! up for grabs!) i suggest a subscription to [Metal Hammer](http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/) magazine, a UK publication that features hundreds of new bands each month, a couple of CDs per month, and maybe also a DVD and stickers/clothing patches. woops! forgot Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah, and Converge… of course, if i just go thru my album collection, I could prolly list stuff all day long… ---

So far your list most closely matches what I listen to, I’m going to have to go out and check some of those that I haven’t heard yet. I’m surprised not to see any **Superjoint Ritual** on there (one of Phil Anselmo’s newer projects) check 'em out if you haven’t already. ---

The only one that I can add is Sabaton -\> Metal with war themes. I suppose they’re more industrial than metal but MDFMK/KMFDM are also good. I like watching the Finntroll videos on youtube, but I can’t listen to it as music because of the way they shout in a foreign language. I have no problem listening to Rammstein though. This thread came at a good time, my emusic account rolled over into the next month today. Now I have a shopping list!🙂 ---

That’s a hard feat to pull of in such a closed genre. If you like the Bronx and also like hardcore, and I mean real old school pre-Cro Mags crossover hardcore check out Bullet Treatment. They’re kind of an all-star project, but they have Matt Caughthran from the Bronx doing vocals on the majority of the stuff and it’s jaw droppingly excellent. ---

**Bands I love** Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Disturbed (saw them live here in Sydney recently, they kicked ass \m/ !), The Deftones, and Rammstein. **Bands I like** Old Black Sabbath, Porcupine Tree, Godsmack, Nightwish, and Iron Maiden. **Bands that I tried but didnt like** Metallica (I seem to the be the only person in the world who just likes 3-4 songs out of their entire discography), Death metal bands with cookie monster vocals. **Bands that I’ve yet to make my mind up on** Opeth, Isis, Within Temptation, and Type ‘O’ Negative.
