Michael Moore- more than just a pretty face

OTOH, Heston proudly states “I AM THE NRA!” and is their president, not just a washed up millionaire celebrity. One of the NRA’s primary reasons for being is to keep high power firearms (and we’re not talking “hunting and protection” firearms, but assault rifles and other weapons that are purely intended for the killing of humans) not only legal but easy to obtain by anybody without a criminal record, and the ease of obtaining weapons and ammo had some bearing on Columbine (moreso really than the Flint killing of the little girl, which was more of a tragic fluke for which I think that I am about as responsible as Dick Clark is). Heston should be prepared to argue his ground on the matter if he’s to be more than a famous figurehead for the organization.

Something I was surprised that Moore didn’t use was footage of gun shows. I’ve been to several; the vendors booths with Nazi memorabilia and such witty bumperstickers as “Sorry faggot, dicks are for chicks” and targets of the Clinton’s heads say much about the gun culture. (The NRA itself had to issue an edict in recent years saying that NeoNazi paraphernalia could not be sold at NRA gun shows.)

What about the footage from Flint? Was it clear to you that the footage took place 8 months after the shooting, at election time, during which Gore and Bush and even Moore himself had rallies there?

Did you even read the link? He didn’t edit Heston’s speech for brevity. He pieced together two different speeches, rearranged lines of them to mean something entirely different, and presented it as something Heston did for the sake of opposing sympathy for what happened at Colombine. I remember Jesse Helms using a similar tactic against his political opponents, and this stinks of the same type of underhandedness.

It’s apparent you like Moore, but you have to stand back and look at both sides of the issue. You may agree with his point, but doesn’t the fact that he expressed it dishonestly make you just a little hot under the collar?

From Uno Mundo’s link:

My understanding of the scene is pretty much exactly the same as theirs. It seems to me that anyone who claims otherwise is wilfully misunderstanding it.

There is more on the subject at the link.

Yeah, I like Moore, but it’s primarily for his humour rather than his politics. There are far better political commentators around, but Moore raises some important questions and issues and does things in a damn entertaining way.

Quite apart from that, if I felt he’d dishonestly expressed a point in the film, then it would get me a little hot under the collar. But he didn’t dishonestly express a point. The debunk Moore website is grasping at straws.

Thank you! I was afraid no one was going to bother posting this. It’s amazing to me that anyone is not only watching this garbage but taking it seriously.

I’d enjoy someone demonstrating where Rush Limbaugh has anything in common with this kind of filth and these kind of lies. Simply being right wing and poking fun at politicians doesn’t cut it. Moore’s no more a “leftist Rush Limbaugh” than Timothy McVeigh was a right-wing Jimmy Carter. Makes no sense? No, because neither does the first comparison.

To the contrary…

To the contrary…

Michael Moore? Irritatingly smug and hopelessly unfunny.

At least Al Franken, woefully misguided as he is, can be funny
sometimes.

LOL so true Stephe. So long as Franken is off his bandwagon I enjoy his other stuff. Such as Stuart Saves His Family lol.

I bolded the answer for you.

How about:

-Rush holding up Chelsea Clinton’s picture and saying “The White House just got a new dog?”

-Rush’s attacks on Donna Shalala’s “best and brightest” comments LONG AFTER it was made clear Shalala was referencing the title of the Halberstam book and not making a value judgment of Vietnam vets

-Rush’s charming jokes about the death of JFK, Jr., Magic Johnson’s HIV status, and other cutesy topics

-the hundreds of errors, misleading spins, and flat-out-lies told by Rush and detailed in books such as these ?

If anybody should be insulted by calling Moore a “leftist Limbaugh”, it’s Moore.

Rush Limbaugh to an African-American caller to his show: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”

Rush Limbaugh: “There are more Native Americans alive today than there were when Columbus first got here.”

Rush Limbaugh: “It has not been proven that nicotine is addictive.”

Rush Limbaugh: “If you want to know what America used to be – and a lot of people wish it still were – then you listen to Strom Thurmond.”

Sounds like you’re the exception, since about 99% of the reactions of people I have spoken to, or those I (and others) have read on the net are similar to Maci’s: They think that the NRA decided to hold rallies shortly after the Columbine and Flint shootings. Seems to me there are a lot of people that are ready and willing to believe whatever BS is fed to them.

Ok,
Rush Limbaugh is a brainless twit, but so is Michael Moore and they both seem so extreme to me that I don’t pay attention to either one very much and I don’t trust those who do.

unclviny

Agreed, but Michael Moore’s shows/films are at least sometimes funny.

Of course mostly they’re just ineffectual ranting (e.g. the Flint, MI job market is still a cesspool, U.S. companies are still closing factories and moving to Mexisingnesia left and right, and K-Mart is still selling bullets).

Rush stating that the economy under Reagan was “the most incredible job-creating machine the world has ever seen.”

Rush charging that Bill Clinton had sold plots in Arlington National Cemetary to campaign contributors, and not retracting or apologizing when it turned out to be bullshit.

Rush saying that the NAACP was training its members to rob liquor stores.

Rush alleging that Al Gore once claimed to have invented the internet.

I hope that’s enough enjoyment for you Anniee. But if it isn’t, just say so and I’m sure we could provide you with lots more.

Fair.org has an outstanding collection of Limbaugh’s lies, falsehoods, distortions, and bile.

http://www.fair.org/media-outlets/limbaugh.html

But my question is, if Franken is so irrelevant and obscure, why did Limbaugh drop all that lard after Franken pointed out that he was big and fat?

Oh. my. god. I was wondering before if anyone was going to actually try to bring up the FAIR bullsh*t. LOL! Thanks for making my day; because I should have KNOWN that nonsense would surface, as turds usually do!

I’ve read that, and the rebuttal and the counter-rebuttal. What a load.

Of course the main point is FAIR is one of the absolute WORST misnomers and travesties of title that exists in this nation. You can’t possibly be serious in naming FAIR as a source!

Sure I am. Please explain how FAIR has no valid information.

But if you disagree with their name and can’t read beyond that, please don’t bother.

So far one person has come up with anything demonstrating anything at. all. and the first three links were utterly self-defeating and an embarrassment to the poster. The other quotes don’t have any source whatsoever and are almost all clearly fabricated. Were I silly enough to believe everything I heard about a person I suppose I’d have said “Damn! That Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot, and he is dangerous to Americans!” But I’m not, fortunately; and happen to know a thing or two about the man and the charges (most of which are false) against him.

And THAT, FYI comes from a libertarian, NOT a conservative. I don’t even HOLD to Limbaugh’s point of view and I can see the smoke being blown up my ass…mostly because it’s a gigantic CLOUD. Grow some skepticism for god’s sake. Read.
