Michael Moore's SICKO: A "Now that I've Seen It" Thread

I have many Canadian friends. Like most humans they bitch about their system. None of them would trade for ours. They think we are uncivilized for being so cruel to fellow citizens.
One Canadian friend had to have a heart transplant. He paid nothing and is alive thanks to their medical system. He could not have gotten it here. He would be dead.
If they decide to change jobs they do not have to consider whether the lapse in coverage could bankrupt them. They do not fear being denied coverage . They don’t know what a pre existing condition is. They do not live with a nagging fear of what could happen to the family if someone gets seriously sick.
Our system is one designed and handled by the Health care corporations. Wonder why it isn’t user friendly?

I saw the movie about the time it came out. I cried like a baby throughout. Question: Did anyone see the extras on the DVD where Michael Moore told the story about giving money to one of his naysayers (who has a website)? The guy’s wife was diagnosed with cancer. They guy blogged that he would be taking time off to take care of his wife. They were uninsured and weren’t sure where they’d get the money from to put her through treatment. Michael Moore sent an anonymous check to the guy covering the cost ($30,000?). Say what you will about the guy, I think he’s fantastic and has a big heart.

Oh, and the movie? Spot on and terrifying as all hell. I have first hand experience. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 (uninsured), it was a long road thru hell. And I’m not talking about the actual cancer treatment. The stories are long and hellacious.

I saw it when it came out. To me the most disturbing part was near the end when he put the ‘dollars received from health insurance lobby’ under the Senators as they walked into a hearing about regulating the industry and Hillary had about the same as everyone else.

Ehhhhhh… I liked the movie and all that. I agree with Moore’s assertions in the movie. I even liked other Moore movies.

But if he told the story in the DVD extras, was it really an anonymous check?

Uh, yes. There was no name on the check (acording the MM). The guy even blogged about receiving the check but didn’t know who it came from. I would suppose that somebody who watched the extras could have told the guy it was from MM, but I’m not sure.

It was still big-hearted. This guy regularly blogged about his dislike of MM. Who else sends money to their enemies?
