Did anyone else out there see the strange scene on the Giants sideline right before the botched field goal to end the game? There was a Giant (I believe Michael Strahan) standing on the sidelines watching the play, and there was a guy on his knees, facing Strahan holding his legs with his hands. Let me tell you, the visual was very bizarre. My wife and I looked at each other and said, “did you see that?” Of course, they moved the camera away pretty quickly… did anyone else catch that, and if so, what the hell was that all about? Not the best kodak moment… ---

Yeah, I saw that. Although he was most likely praying, the dude looked, for all the world, to be fellating Michael. Even in the midst of a tense final act to what had been a brilliantly competitive and exciting football game, I laughed out loud at the bizarre incongruity of the image. Just plain weird. ---

I wish I could remember the specifics, but I saw one game where the camera showed a player sitting on the bench having what looked like the exact middle of his crotch being rubbed by the team trainer. The player had pulled a muscle, and the trainer was rubbing the area. Unfortunately, the camera angle was such that it looked as though the trainer was giving the player a very enthusiastic handjob. ---

My all-time favorite sideline shot was during an old MNF 49ers telecast. Al Michaels was talking about Tom Rathman, who was injured and not suited up. They cut to the sideline to show Rathman, and he does the old “pinch one nostril, blow snot out the other” move (must not have been any tissues around). Michaels doesn’t even blink and says “And I’m sure Tom is just gonna love us for that shot.” ---

We saw it too and finally decided he must have been doing some sort of stretch. But it was funny how quickly they moved away from the shot! We were like, “Uh…did I just see what I think I saw?” ---

It was definitely Michael Strahan - ever since he pointed up at the scoreboard after the Niners made it 38-33, I was waiting for the cameras to show him in defeat on the sidelines. Too bad they never showed a dejected Jeremey Shockey. If I ever see him in person, I’m going to mimic the “shh” gesture in his face. Then run. 🙂 ---
