Nothing wrong with companies buying other companies. I suspect they do it for reasons other than ‘taking the credit’

There definitely is a way to delete all unread email from Gmail’s web client in one go, rather than a page at a time. I’ve done it, but I can’t remember how off the top of my head. I found out how to do it by searching, I think.

I’m completely ambivalent about the Microsoft / LinkedIn thing. I’m also a fan of LinkedIn - it has directly led to job offers in the past, simply as a result of me turning up in recruiters’ searches.
