I don’t know how else to translate gitano. ---

This means, of course, that I wait tables for a living, while trying to sell my screenplay, break into the next big role, and start a singing career. Besides, I’ll be lucky to even figure out the money. You mean a pound isn’t the same as a dollar? And what’s a quid? And what’s with all these coins? Math is so hard! 😃 ---

A pound is worth about $1.70, a quid is slang for a pound, the coins are easy…there’s a thread about them somewhere but I’m to lazy to look for it. You may wait tables but lookit all those huge tips you make…you aint kidding anyone buddy, the drinks are on you ---

However, the buying power of an English pound in England is much the same as a US $ in America - your prices seem low to us. At any rate, I wouldn’t expect change out of a £10 note if our family of four went to McDonalds, and beer is well over £2 a pint most places you go (but our pints are 25% bigger than yours). Also, our gas prices will make your jaw drop - over seven bucks a gallon (again, rather bigger gallons, but we sell by the litre anyway). But what the heck. We’re expensive, but we’re worth it. 😃 ---

[/QUOTE] Because I haven’t forgotten and no-one else has stepped up to the plate Starter for one: 6:00pm Saturday 7th July, The Lapstone in Fair Oak - 20 minutes from Southampton, 10 minutes from the railway station in Eastleigh (I can do pickups for train travellers) Nice pub - great garden (it will be summer), I know the landlord and could possibly organise a gazebo and BBQ if there is enough interest. Of course if people want to meet in Southampton or London - suggest away. But firm suggestions for GrizzRich to plan on. He will be our (UK Dopers) guest. Si ---
