A million more soliders divided between Daesh, the Syrian Opposition, and the SAR means nothing more than more dead bodies in Damascus etc. I would think that these refugees have fled Syria because they don’t feel that Syria as a nation is worth fighting for, because for the foreseeable future it’s a lost cause.

Why? If there is a civil war where I like no side at all or the side I like is marginalised, what obligation is there? For many Syrians who participated in the peaceful protests, the devolution of this (at the provocation of the Syrian government turning first the arms on the peaceful protestors) into the domination by the warlords of ever changing allegiances is nothing but a dead end for them.
