I DO know that his wife published a children’s book about their pet rabbit, and John Oliver published a parody where the rabbit was gay. Both books were pretty decent best-sellers, too. ---

Pence’s team obviously has no viable strategy except to wait for some unlikely event where Trump drops out. And if that happens, there will be no viable lane to the left of where Trump was. Best guess is that the GOP won’t be nominating any career politicians like Pence for a while. Vivek Ramaswamy and Candace Owens are more popular among the GOP grass roots then anyone with more than four years of officeholding. The Bulwark has had some good focus-group informed articles on this. But it’s not Pence’s own money, so why not try? And if you going to try, running against Trump’s legacy is among the most hopeless of the available bad ideas. ---

Pence and other candidates have gotten a donor bump when they criticize Trump. It doesn’t help their polling numbers, though. And yes, Pence has new merch, so he’s got that going for him, which is nice. ---

I’m just waiting for a Trump to call him a Rigger-lover. The “returning federal land back to the states” is a big issue for the anti-federal government Republicans, the Bundy crowd. But the real problem with that position is the reason the land is federally owned in the first place is that the states couldn’t afford to manage and maintain it.
