Anyone have a recommendation on the Crimean War? All I’ve read has been in books on the Ottoman Empire and the British involvement therein. (Mango’s “Ataturk” is excellent, btw).

A someone who doesn’t actually like military history all that much, I liked Michael & Jeffrey Shaara’s books on the civil war battles. I’d never really considered the role of personality and military tactics and geography before–seriously, this is embarrassing and sounds collossally stupid, but I thought battles were mostly about who was dug in better and had more guys. I wondered what the heck they would actually teach at West Point that could fill a semester. Reading “The Killer Angels” & “Gods & Generals” and others made me begin to understand military tactics and how they can matter.
While I like the Shaaras’ civil war books, I greatly prefered * Gone fo Soldiers*.
