> March 29 to April 5 2019, “large” capacity magazines were legal to buy, and subsequently legal to own. I don’t know what the practical availability of purchase for drums were then.

> I don’t think any military that uses larger than 30 round AR style magazines. Larger appearing magazines can also be pinned to 10 or whatever size while appearing larger.

[Magpul D60 drums](https://magpul.com/pmagd60ar-m4-5-56x45drum.html) are becoming the new hotness, as the [Marine Corps experiments with getting rid of beltfeds for the light machine gun role in the infantry squad](https://www.military.com/dodbuzz/2011/06/14/marines-ditch-saw-for-new-auto-rifle). Or at least, dumping the M249 SAW.

Old cite, and doesn’t mention the D60, but it is supposed to be a very reliable, tough drum mag. For 125 bucks MSRP, not that .Gov will pay that, of course, it had better be.

Oh, I know militaries have used drum mags, mostly notably the 75 round RPK, but I’m not sure if any standard assault rifle configurations do.
