I do not drink milk. It does a calfs body good, I’ll give you that. My son couldn’t digest it when a baby. He doesn’t seem to need it now. His stomach was bothering him for awhile, I started sending juice with him to school instead of those little milk cartons they have and he got better. Soy is where its at! ---

The best outcome (for me, at least) is that two whiny liberal organizations (PETA and MADD) are going to spend a lot of time and energy feuding with each other. But that’s just because I hate both of 'em. Besides, I drink both Beer and Milk. They both have their places, and I wouldn’t want to switch one for the other. (And does PETA have any idea what happens to those poor hops in the beer-making process? It’s heartbreaking!) * * * …but when you get blue, and you’ve lost all your dreams, there’s nothing like a campfire and a can of beans! ---

* * * ## Cow’s milk is an inefficient food source. Cows, like humans, expend the majority of their food intake simply leading their lives. It takes a great deal of grain and other foodstuffs cycled through cows to produce a small amount of milk. And not only is milk a waste of energy and water, the production of milk is also a disastrous source of water pollution. A dairy cow produces 120 pounds of waste every day – equal to that of two dozen people, but with no toilets, sewers, or treatment plants. So what do those freaks want us to do? Render cows extinct? That doesn’t sound particularly ethical to me. * * * Life is a tragedy for those who feel and a comedy for those who think. ---

I’m ready to slam-dunk PETA’s illogical ramblings as quickly as the next person. Here I think they have a genuine point, but they just take it too far. The valid point, buried under the usual PETA foolishness, is that cows peacefully grazing in the field, then getting called into the barn to be milked twice a day, are a thing of the past. Now they spend their lives in a tiny stall, and are given hormones and milked as often as possible to maximize their milk production. The cows are treated as no more than a biological component in a mechanical process. I mean, cows are pretty dumb and worthless animals, as far as I’m concerned, and IMO, their highest and best use is to produce milk, cheese, and the like, and to be turned into steaks and burgers. (Yum!) But still, I think even cows deserve to be treated better than this. But PETA, as usual, manages to alienate all but the True Believers in their cause. By insisting on the pure extreme of avoiding all animal products whatsoever, they turn off people who might see _some_ things their way, but disagree with them on others. They want nothing to do with committed carnivores like me, which is fine with me. ---

An ethical dilemma: I love milk, and drink a glass a day. I am also aware of the problems associated with milk. Between my school and my parents’ house, there is a dairy right next to the highway. God, that place stinks unto high heaven. The cow’s manure drains right into a sump, and thence to the aquifer. The cows do indeed appear to be penned up, and standing right in the middle of their own excrement. And I have read all the stuff about bovine growth hormone. I may drink one glass a day now, but I drank at least three a day growing up. I always credited my excessive height to calcium. Now I’m not so sure… On top of everything else, this is a desert. How much water goes into those cows? Too much, probably. So, while PETA may be frothing at the mouth as they are wont to do, they definitely have a point. So, I can either give up my daily glass of moo juice, or continue to feed the machine. The curse of awareness… * * * Heck is where you go when you don’t believe in Gosh. ---

Well, ya know what happens if milk consumption goes down . . . All those cute little moo-cows will be butchered and made into hamburgers and Versace jackets. Does PETA think the farmers will just set them all free, give 'em a new suit and $5? ---
