Cereal companies blaming Millenial’s moral failing for their lack of success selling to that market seems pretty entitled to me.

And then that pizza dude goes and blames it all on black folks. ☹

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess cereal consumption is down because most breakfast cereals are some variant of Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs, and parents are more health conscious than they used to be.

My Mom would buy that junk for us, no problem. I would not dream of buying it for our kids. I’m not a better parent, we’re just more aware of stuff like that these days.

Evidently you haven’t gone down the cereal aisle in a supermarket in the last 20 years or so.

You can still find Cocoa Krispies and Lucky Charms, but there’s been a _huge_ expansion in “plain” grain and granola-based cereal with loads of stuff promoted as low sugar, high-fiber, nutrient-enhanced, organic, gluten-free, non-GMO etc. etc.

Maybe some consumers have stopped eating cereal because they have to look a few seconds longer in the store to find a box of Super-Spangled Chocolate Glucose Bits.

Yeah, boomer here with millennial children. I think a lot of the millennials are pretty cool people. They vary, of course, like any other group of people, but in general, they seem more concerned with treating others well and with respecting individual preferences than prior generations.

My kids don’t eat as much cereal as i do. Maybe that’s because they grew up with so many more options in easy food than i did. To me, cereal is a default low effort meal. Other easy meals when i was a kid were crap like poptarts, and i don’t really think of those things. Buy now there are lots of reasonably healthy filling for in that general category. If millennials eat that more than my generation, if guess it’s because we are set in our ways, not because they are too lazy to wash a bowl.

I just realized a couple of things:
A youth worker at our church took a bunch of us middle-schoolers (!) to see Putney Swope, about a black ad agency, and then I ended up going into advertising.

And I’ve consumed 2-3 bowls of cereal PER DAY since then. Who says the right ad (or cultural confluence) doesn’t work?

“No shit” indeed.

Before I stopped eating cereal almost entirely, I tried some of these healthier cereals. In my experience, they tended to taste like shredded cardboard. Perhaps there are some more delicious ones out there, but I wasn’t going to keep buying one depressing health cereal after another trying to find a tasty one when there are other things I could be eating for breakfast.

Just when you thought elderly people’s millenial bashing couldn’t get anymore puerile, critiquing our supposed reasons for not eating nutritionally vacuous junk takes the cake (and if you’re stupid enough to think we think cleaning a bowl is too much work, I have to ask how seniors think we eat food in general?)

I’d expect something like thid from Freepers who will believe anything in print that supports their prejudices. Poor showing, SDMB.

(FTR this low income millenial works fulltime and supports an ailing grandmother 2000 miles away financially, tell me more about how entitled we are, it’s good for web hits!)

Huh? Are you quizzing me to see if I’m your husband incognito? Or is there a reference to this in Putney Swope (that I’ve forgotten since I saw it in 1969)?

Although I do remember that when a reporter asked him if it was true he’d slept with his wife before they were married, Swope answered “Not a wink.”

Hmm, I’m fond of wheat chex, and nothing goes better with strawberries and milk that corn chex. Grapenuts are tasty and have a nice crunch. Raisin bran is comfort food, and the raisins make it delicious.

Some of the granolas are yummy, but I find them generally too sweet to eat for breakfast.

100 Calories a day is like 10 lbs a year, so if he’s right about the difference in metabolism, he’s wrong about the amount of weight gain.

I’ve gone from Lucky Charms and Trix to Mini-Shredded Wheats. 100% whole grains, almost no sugar. I’m healthier than I’ve ever been.

Well, yeah, I switch it up and have frosted ones for a treat (Trader Joe’s has delicious Maple Brown Sugar Mini-Wheats).

Please, a moment of respect for Maple Brown Sugar Mini-Wheats…

The only lines I remember from “Putney Swope” are part of a song lyric:

_I have a malignancy in my prostate
But when I’m with you it’s benign_
