Millions in coins scattered across Ontario highway in serious crash

I, too, am giggling at the notion of the various crashes. I can just IMAGINE my cats going apeshit if the Larson incident occurred. :p:p

And THAT one made me guffaw. :stuck_out_tongue:

And the treasure hunters are out

Considering just how far the crash site is from the populous south, they must be mostly locals.

Very little nickel. Canadian coins (except the penny) have been either 99% nickel or nickel-plated steel since 1968. Coins of both compositions can be picked up with magnets.

How much would $5 million in Loonies and Toonies weigh? I would imagine several hundred pounds.

Also, start hoarding your pennies. Last ones will be minted in April or May.

A lot more than that. Somewhere between 40,000 pounds (all toonies) and 77,000 pounds (all loonies). The lower end will be coming down shortly, as the newer coins are to be plated steel and a little lighter.
