I’ve never pitted another Doper, because I really don’t see the need. If the behavior is truly egregious, someone with better skills will come along and do it for me. However, [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=262111) takes the cake. Now, I’ve come to expect the smell of **milroyj** ’s fecal offerings in political threads. I’ve even come to enjoy these leavings because they provide endless opportunities to roll my eyes. However, his pile of shit in the aforementioned thread is beyond the pale. In this thread, he questions the need for parents to travel with their young children, on the basis that it’s a nuisance for the other travelers. Well, buddy, guess what? Parents have the right to travel and take their kids with them. Sorry if you don’t like it. I’ve been on flights with screaming kids, and Lord knows they’re annoying. But their parents paid for the right to fly, and there’s nothing I can do about it. So, from a parent who travels by plane to Texas so her son can visit his grandparents, one of whom has multiple sclerosis and who can’t easily travel, here’s a hearty fuck you. May you get stuck on a flight full of parents going to the Colicky Baby Convention, and may that plane be delayed on the tarmac. May you sit behind a child with a Game Boy and an unlimited supply of batteries, and in front of a child who’s had too much caffeine and sugar. Bitchfucker. Brava, **MsRobyn**! Brava! I’m sure **milroyj** would love the world to shape itself to his demands, but sometimes people do need to take children places. Sometimes a two-day car ride would be much harder on a child than, say, a three-hour flight. In short, sometimes people need to do things that might inconvenience his royal high-ass **milroyj**. It’s not your world, **milroy**. Don’t expect it to be. ---

Hey, I’m the first to complain about the rash of “free range” children seen when one goes out these days in the New South. I worked retail for two years. Trust me, I can’t stand people inflicting their children on me and not giving a crap about anybody but themselves. I have nothing but loathing and nasty remarks for people who let their kids run screaming down the airplane aisles or don’t care that they kick the back of my seat. But I don’t consider people who take their kids on planes and do their best to keep the impact on other passengers minimal to be rude or selfish at all. They have just as many valid reasons for flying as anybody else, and I’ll be damned if anybody tells me I should tell my 90 year old grandfather to pack up his wheelchair and come down here to see my (hypothetical) baby when I can bring the baby up there. Oh, not that the baby would notice where he was, of course. And I’m sure the baby won’t treasure those pictures with his grandfather that he was never old enough to know. I mean, that’s just not important enough to inconvenience anybody else for. After all, if adults ever _saw_ a baby in public the trauma would be unforgiveable. :rolleyes: Grr. That really did piss me off. I’m glad somebody had the initiative to Pit. ---

Bose noise-cancellation headphones. They are expensive but worth every penny if you fly often. They keep you from wasting time waiting for 6 billion people to adjust to your needs. ---

The little creeps don’t know how to pop their ears and they don’t understand why it hurts. A perfectly quiet baby will cry when it’s in pain. It dosen’t mean the parents are selfish or negligent or not doing their best to make it easy on the baby and the other passengers. ---

I don’t know what you could actually do to prevent yourself from being booked on a flight with kids, but barring financial difficulty, you _could_ get the head phones. ---

Personally, I think it would be worth it to have my grandfather hold my baby before he dies. I’ll keep in mind that I have a right not to be annoyed by anything any other person does when you crack your knuckles, cough, sneeze, talk loudly, accidentally bump into me, or have an obnoxious accent when I fly on the same plane as you. And if you take the last tray of fish, well. Surely you have no real reason to be flying - after all, if you were going to be such an obnoxious excuse for a human being, you could have taken a car to spare us all. I mean, you knew you were a knuckle-cracker when you made your plans. At least the baby can’t _talk_ yet - there’s plenty of people I wish had never developed verbal skills. Mostly they’re in the row behind me in coach, and they are _loud_. ---

EE: how about **this** unavoidable/memorable situation? MJ: fuck 'em. He doesn’t give a shit what arguments you’re putting forward, no matter how logical. His answer will always be “don’t fly”.
