I’ve had the “Day Man, Fighter of the Night Man” song stuck in my head for the last 18 hours and it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere.

Well, remember that for a long time you had to be a registered paying member to post here. Simply reading, however, could be done by anyone for free. It doesn’t seem too unreasonable that someone could read threads here for a long time before finally being motivated to join up.
