BTW, since you mentioned Depleted Uranium, here is a link to an article I read the other day. Nasty stuff.

This is something partially related to the OP, but I wanted to throw it out to you all for consideration.
Interestingly, my dad found this article linked from news.google.com around 4am Saturday, and it was no longer linked by 6am Saturday (it was pulled).
The source is clearly liberal IMO, but that by itself doesn’t discredit it for me.
Well, certainly, Clu, but thats how the dastardly liberal media works, through the cunning use of facts. They operate on the rather naive assumption that a continuous repitition of the facts will somehow seep, presumably through osmosis, into the mind of the average American. And to be shocked when the opinion of the average American remains as unaffected as the Rock of Gibralter would be unaffected by rifle fire.
But anyone who remembers the Nixon years will recall how long it took for public opinion, especially right wing public opinion, to come around to the staggeringly obvious. Smoking gun after smoking gun after another for more than a year! It dragged on and on and on… The Emperor not only had no clothes, he had 666 tattooed on his butt!
GeeDubya will most likely get away with it. You cant keep a story alive without news, and there will be none. “Nope, ain’t found 'em yet, but Iraq’s big place, big as Oz, California, France and a bunch of other places! And we’ll keep looking as long as it takes, even if we’re still looking come next November…”
The only body that can actually hold them accountable is dominated by thier political allies. any of whom would rather pound a pineapple up his Nixon than make a real move in that direction. Nothing short of a veritable firestorm of public opinion can change that. Any number of Republican Congresscreatures may well be chucklewits, but they can pretty much all count.
He’ll get away with it. Bet me.
I agree with the sentiments but the nitpicker in me feels obliged to point out that Oz is actually about 20 times the size of Iraq. We is big!
Lord, when an Aussie sobers up long enough to type, he usually comes up with some tiresome quibble. Most such corrections are tedious, but, or course, that’s the trouble with quibbles.
Thats why we drink! Its the burden of correcting merkins
That is why we drink! Its the constant burden of correcting merkins
well aint that curious, you use Lord in your sentance, were you actually adddressing the Lord? - prob not, but then again you didnt address one single issue i raised niether.
what? - isnt your mind agile enough, with our without the assistance of substances, to see the beutiful religious symbolism picture i painted in my original post?
i said, your cruise missiles rained down like tears from The God of heaven and earth, weeping over your criminal slaughtering of nation after nation.
but it wasnt The God who rained cruise missiles, ( and prob few of you shed many tears either huh? ) - it was your pretend God, your false leader, and btw, if they were Gods tears, they would nourish and heal, not at all like your WMD, wiping out cities and human life like a firestorm from HELL!
speaking of tiresome, must have been real tiresome for the thousands of your imagined ‘enemy’ to have all them cruise missiles land on thier heads, was it tiresome for you guys to have to push all them darned buttons?
do you feel any of the contempt the world has for your nation?, or you all nicely safe and secure, lulled by your illusion of security of your allmighty armed forces?
RIP

Pssst Zanthor, its just a jest he was directing at me.
oh, is your name Lord too? ( kidding ) but anyways, sorry mate, my mistake then, i got caught up in the vision rememberance of thousands of cruise missiles falling on Baghdad, near overwhelmed by the inhumanity of it all, thinking, this is what we see unleashed on our fellow man, from a supposedly Christian nation?
what galls most, is that many declare it ‘just’ and ‘rightous’
and none of us seem able to stop the madness,
it just doesnt make any sense,
Zan
I’m not old enough to have 1st-hand knowledge of that. However, I do have anecdotal evidence re: the true position of some (hopefully) right-wing ppl.
I refer to the Lynyrd Skynyrd song, “Sweet Home Alabama” with it’s verse:
Watergate doesn’t bother me
Does your conscience bother you? Tell the truth
This implies to me that for some conservatives, especially the redneck types (plz forgive generalization), seeing something like Watergate, or even something that occured recently (deception re: Iraq) makes them happy. They might view it as “score one for our side”.
I’ve debated some of these issues on a forum centered around a video game (many members are young), and this is a distinct impression I get from them. It’s a good thing that we aren’t supporting Saddam by purchasing oil. Score one for our side.
good points man.
info btw, in case you were not aware, sweet home alabama was written by skynard in respose to neil youngs song ‘southern man’
when neil talked about the mistreatment of the negroes in the cotton filelds down south.
skynard said - who needs a man like him ( neil ) around anyhows?
anyways, i reckon an appropriate song to describe Bush would be - ‘pigs, 3 different ones’, by pink floyd, song goes, charade, you know you are a charade, ( fake ) its almost as if roger waters wrote it with Bush in mind…
try, zombie, the cranberries, as a raw example of wars pain.
Zanthor
I hope you still find it funny.
The FT has some added commentary of interest:
“US withheld uranium intelligence from UN” By Edward Alden, Guy Dinmore and James Harding The Financial Times 9 July 2003
Well, we may wonder why that was.
The article also notes:
Of further interest, as the credulous on this board continue to pimp the tubes and the like:
I find it hard to avoid the conclusion that the case was concocted in a concerted manner.
