> That reminds me: have any of these unjustified killings by cop ever resulted in some sort of street justice, where the cop winds up dead or seriously injured because the law did nothing?

The problem here is that “street justice” is not necessarily very discriminating: They might kill any cop, not necessarily the “right” one. Self-appointed vigilantes are liable to kill anyone who happens to be conveniently available for the purpose.

In July 2016, a lone assassin ambushed and shot five Texas cops, apparently in revenge for recent shootings-by-cop of several blacks in other parts of the country.

At best these riots are contained quickly and are largely forgotten by November. If they recur nearer the election, they absolutely could swing the election to Trump.

This. And the one out of six they won was extremely narrow, despite being in the wake of Gerald Ford (never elected by anyone beyond one congressional district in Michigan) proclaiming that there was no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe and pardoning Nixon.

Fortunately, our DFL governor Tim Walz has now stepped up in a major way:

In my mind, this will go down as one of the worst screwups by the Dems in political history. They were handed a situation on a silver platter (not to cheapen Floyd’s death, but politically). You have a situation where absolutely everyone agrees that an egregious event happened and it points right towards long held Dem beliefs about police and treatment of blacks in the inner cities. They have our ear. So how does the dialogue proceed?

Police stations are burned, Target is looted for big screen TVs, and anarchy prevails. And the Dems want to fancy foot around it by talking about pain and systematic injustice. Bullshit. We would have all supported peaceful protest and institutional reform but not looting Target for an RCA TV. They gifted this right back to Trump who says that we will shoot these assholes, and America agrees.

The Dems turned a monumental opportunity around 180 degrees because they cannot keep from tripping over their own dicks. You stop people from destroying property full stop. That is not a reasonable response to any injustice. I’ve seen Dems on Facebook talking about how this is a good American protest just like the Boston Tea Party. \*smackshead. How much more ridiculous can some people be?

I would bet that Dem campaign managers could be gifted a new $100k car and would immediately open the sunroof, climb on top and shit inside. But they do this and blame everyone else because Trump wins.

This? Please, he could not reply to what I pointed out. Neither you for that matter, before you reply you need to be aware that you are supporting here one that implies that Democrats are in favor of the rioting, they are not.

And \*\*Lantern \*\*also thinks that this supposed democratic support of the rioters will benefit Trump, when Trump is also mishandling the crisis, as he usually does.

This is to point out what is is going in the right wing info-sphere, there is really no dialog but propaganda that claims misleadingly that Democrats are for the riots.

Yeah, that is like Obama’s “opposition” to gay marriage early in his presidency. Meaningless bullshit talking points and out of the other side of his mouth he more strongly excoriates Trump for saying that he will fight back against them. The Dem mayor in Minneapolis has sat on his hands all week and allowed his city to burn.

The voting public knows which side will keep public order.

So yep, no evidence for the Democrats giving a gift to Trump. They are not for the looting.

Sorry to say (not really), but as pointed already, Trump also has had a handle on making things worse. And your point about what Biden and others said “to be meaningless” \*\*is \*\*bullshit since the media you depend on forgot to mention it to you.

This rioting, violence, looting, and arson that is a feature of urban areas under control of the so-called resistance is not going to be a positive for the Dems in November. My wife, who is completely disgusted by President Trump might very well vote 3rd party or even for Trump solely because of this civil unrest. It’s only one anecdote though. Probably completely meaningless.

Biden is “furious” over Trump tweets.

So he is against the rioting yet when the President says we will stop it, he is “furious.” People see through that bullshit. Again, much like how Obama was against gay marriage, but also against DOMA and Prop 8. Much like how Dems are against open borders but also oppose anything to enforce borders.

Now, I’m sure that in his heart of hearts neither Biden nor anyone else wants to see this looting and violence, but what a voter sees is one person who wants to do something and another who is pandering.

Please read post #2, you would be right if the Democrats were in favor of looting, but they are not, so I foresee a repeat of 1992, with the incumbent Republicans going for the demonization of not only the rioters but peaceful protesters too as their only talking point.

Yes, it is. More so when it is Trump who is tossing gasoline into the fire and Republicans are doing the 3 “wise” monkey act to that.

Oh, the ACLU set everyone straight, did they? Are you seeing the disconnect with voters yet?

Trump tapped into what most people think: You come to destroy my business, you will get shot. I don’t care why you are destroying my business or if your underlying motives are pure. You are here destroying my shit. You will be shot.

Call me an asshole or tell me that people who think this way are wrong, but that is what voters think…and that makes Biden “furious.” Yes, he gives a somber statement condemning the violence, but what is he going to do to stop it? The Dem mayor is still letting the town burn.

Again, it’s the image. People are united against what the cops did. Dems could have used this to say, “See, we were right. Let’s do something about it.” Instead they are seen as pandering to people who are burning down their city while Trump says shoot 'em.

And that is what voters want to hear: unvarnished truth. A typical voter can see that the death of George Floyd was atrocious, can sympathize with peaceful protest, but also thinks that people looting Target for a TV should be shot. Biden can’t go with that last one because he has to play the race card, which IMHO is not respectful to blacks at all but treats them like infant children as if they just cannot help themselves and looting big TVs is just a thing that blacks do when they get upset.

It’s terribly insulting and not a good thing.

I’m going to report this if you keep accusing me of posting in bad faith.

Again, I don’t care what the D.C. mayor or police chief says. Trump said that if protestors scale the wall of the White House fence that dogs would tear them up. So? Is that false? Do you believe that people should be able to scale the White House fence in a protest? I don’t.

I’m not sure what your point here is and how Trump’s tweets in this context (and I thought we were talking about Minneapolis?) are bad. If someone loots your store, you shoot them; that’s what voters think. Biden is against looting but is “furious” about those comments. Why?

Again, your opinion. Not the ACLU or the DC Mayor unless they want to come and post here. I don’t give two shits what other liberals think that are not in this thread. Why are Trump’s comments bad?

But burning down communities and needless destruction is not. Violence that endangers lives is not. Violence that guts and shutters businesses that serve the community is not.”

Yes, good statement from Biden. Exactly what the doctor ordered.

But can anyone really argue with a straight face that Frey has done a good job? Certainly Governor Walz has made it clear he doesn’t think so.

Interesting stance for you to take, given that:

(1) The [Supreme Court has ruled that it is unconstitutional to use deadly force against looters except in self defense](https://twitter.com/mckaycoppins/status/1266403836790558720);

(2) Even Trump realized he had gone too far with the “looting/shooting” tweet, so just like with the “disinfectant” nonsense, he [made up a transparent lie](https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-defends-his-when-the-looting-starts-the-shooting-starts-tweet-2020-5) about what he meant:

> [@](#):
>
> “Looting leads to shooting, and that’s why a man was shot and killed in Minneapolis on Wednesday night - or look at what just happened in Louisville with 7 people shot…It was spoken as a fact, not as a statement”

Now who’s trying to have it both ways? Or is it only okay when Trump does it? :dubious:

Letting you know that you are wrong with cites is not a bad thing IMHO.

I don’t either, the point that you are avoiding is what the dogs refer to:

Already explained here in this post and before.

You are mistaken if you think I’m posting just for you, it is for others that need to learn why Trump’s comments were bad, if you do not want to learn, then fine. Many do know why Trump’s comments were bad and idiotic. It is not really a repeat of 1968 but 1992 and many Republicans are ignoring that Democrats do not agree with the looting and condemn the bad cops, Feel free to not learn what the people really thought about Republicans accusing peaceful protesters and Democratic leaders that also condemned the ones resorting to violence of being in league with the violent ones.

Many will not be amused at the ugly accusations and divisive rhetoric of the president and Republicans that ignore that understanding why there is a riot does not mean that one approves of it.
