I don’t think anyone really thinks rioting is right (or logical). They’re just acknowledging that it is inevitable when people are oppressed to a sufficient degree.

If you have 10 bad cops and 1000 good cops but the 1000 good cops don’t turn in the 10 bad cops, you have 1010 bad cops.

I have an idea, and I’m just spit balling here. How about if prominent black athletes quietly knelt during the singing of the National Anthem? Kneeling is a sign of respect, of course, and it would bring visibility to the mistreatment of black people everywhere in the US.

Surely those complaining about this protest would be OK with that.

No. The swift arrest of all four cops and holding them in jail pending further investigation of an obvious crime. At least manslaughter. That would be a start and could have prevented some, not all, of this violence.

All the cops standing by outside the cop’s home is really bad optics, as the say, it makes it look like all of the police force is standing in solidarity with these bad cops. This will keep the fires burning.

There can be no excuse for the actions of these police, none. Four cops on scene with a handcuffed suspect on the ground, apparently not resisting, and they couldn’t just get him into the vehicle and take him in?

Complete bullshit!

The police there are [apparently](https://www.mprnews.org/story/2019/10/07/minneapolis-police-union-sells-cops-for-trump-tshirts) a bunch of Trump fanatics. So it’s not surprising that they are murderously racist.

It took the LA riots for even limited attempts to do anything about police corruption and racial persecution by the police in LA. The only thing the authorities pay attention to is spectacular news footage and property damage.

So yes; if the local people there want anything to be done, they _should in fact_ burn and loot and play to the cameras while they do it.

And do you think that ex-cop’s life would be worth warm spit if there _weren’t_ people around his house, guarding it? Do you think the angry mob already burning and looting wouldn’t look to exert a little “street justice” if they could get away with it?

Just to be clear - I’m in the camp where I think the officers involved in the murder of George Floyd SHOULD be in jail on murder charges. On the other hand, if the world was as it should be Floyd would still be alive.

Understanding why something is the way it is, is NOT the same as condoning it, approving of it, or wanting it to be so.

As a veteran who served to protect the right of all Americans to kneel in protest of injustice, I’m highly against people kneeling in protest of injustice, because it disrespects veterans.

As a serious answer, I haven’t seen many people complaining about the protest, only the looting.

It’s kind of hard to complain about a protest now after seeing gun-toting protestors storming a state capitol and not complaining.

I’m not sure what you’re smoking here but I don’t want any part of it. I think you’re trying to tie war crimes to rioting. I’m comfortable with everyone at Blackwater who stood around while civilians were raped and murdered (or whatever event you’re talking about) going to jail for their complicity.

I’d suggest burning down a police station as a better option or maybe city hall.

I’ve got no problem with Kapernick. Not sure what this has to do with setting apartment buildings on fire.

I’m not sure where we could find modern comparable’s except for Ferguson a couple of years ago but I thought that was wrong too. You could make an argument for Bundy and his group of morons but they didn’t have comparable motivation to these protesters (Bundy had none these guys are at least right to be pissed) and Bundy didn’t hurt anyone or burn down chunks of the city. There were also the alt-right morons in Charlotte a couple of years ago but the guy who hit someone with his car went to jail (rightly so).

People have [pointed out](https://www.dailydot.com/irl/lebron-james-colin-kaepernick-george-floyd-death/) that a black man is punished and condemned for kneeling in protest buy the same sort of people who have no problem with a cop killing a black man by kneeling on his throat. The imagery is very symbolic, and spreading virally.

I still can’t wrap my head around justifying the rioting and looting of your own community. Burn down city hall? Sure. Flip over some cop cars? Yep.
But when I’m pissed at the local government why in the world would I steal from my next next door neighbor and then burn his house down?

Man, I think you just live in a different world than I do. Even Octopus said:

He’s about as far of right wing as we have left on this board. So while I get that in the greater world there are people who are ok with what the cops did it seems like a small minority.

On the other hand I’m OK with Kap getting fired. I personally think that people should avoid political speech at work and I’m ok with their work firing them if they do so. What these cops did while the same physical action is worlds away from what Kap did and they should go to jail but making a comparison is asinine.

Please explain to me why kneeling is disrespectful because I truly do not understand that point of view. In fact, I have a couple of veteran friends who feel the exact opposite that you do. Which doesn’t make either side wrong, just different.

But I would like to know why you find it objectionable.

(Also, kudos to you for defending the right of others to hold a very different viewpoint than what you hold because, after all, that is what freedom of belief and speech are all about).

1. It’s easier to get to your neighbor’s home/business than city hall.
2. Even if there’s an alarm on said neighbor’s property it still is unlikely to have the same level of security as a government building.
3. The perception that the neighbor has more money/stuff/power/whatever than the folks doing the burning and looting - in other words, jealousy.
4. Some of the folks looting don’t actually give a fuck about the issues, they’re actual thieves taking advantage of an opportunity.
