Citizens who are of the majority (white, straight, Christian) will always have a harder time grokking the injustice of the free market. Of course, there’s a few who are smart enough to know better, but I think the majority simply can’t conceive of situations where it’s not just about a fucking wedding cake or where the folks being discriminated against are unable to move at the whims of the free market.

This whole thing with refusing to serve a particular minority group isn’t a new problem that has never been dealt with before. It has been dealt with, for a situation that was far more entrenched, widespread and public than refusing to cater a gay wedding. The world did not end. White people are not required to invite Black people to their Superb Owl parties. If someone wants to be a racist, they can be, I’m pretty sure people continue to be racist.
What it has done, though, is cause a set of people to forget what life was like when discrimination was openly allowed, when businesses COULD refuse to service a large segment of the population and go right on truckin’. When black motorists needed a book to tell them where they could get service, and where they’d be turned away, because they really couldn’t count on getting service just by paying for it. The solution worked so well, so transparently, that people actually believe that the “free market” would do it on its own, and that a legal solution would somehow beat down on our freedoms.
Scrambling is a standard feature in all Fuckheads. Unscrambling is an expensive option that most of them opt out.
