I know. But when LBJ passed the civil rights act and voting rights act, there was a realignment and southern whites became overwhelmingly republican.

> “working poor”? Welfare mothers (too busy screwing around to seek work) spreading legs and having babies with no man to support them, knowing Gov’t will subsidize their life-style

It would be interesting to see this Reagan era bit of propaganda substantiated with facts. The 1986 tax “reform” eliminated most of the ways in which anyone could actually be guaranteed a living wage by simply having babies. That this nonsense is still floating around 23 years later demonstrates the depths to which some in the far right will stoop just to hate on poor people.
And even under the pre-1986 laws, your claim about the working poor is utter nonsense, since your “welfare mothers” claim would have excluded such persons as they were not working.

Being one of the “Good One’s” has always been a profitable enterprise. At least in the short term for those lucky few it works for.

> Just as the Catholic and Evangelical churches are overwhelmingly Republican, and are as much, if not more, a “sea of sexual exploitation”.

According to [Pew Research](https://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/religious-tradition/catholic/), Catholics are 37% Republican or leaning but 44% Democratic or leaning. (Catholic hierarchy, which is where the majority of abuse issues occur, may well be predominantly Republican, although they, too, have begun making efforts to reduce tolerance of abuse.)
The celibate priesthood is an 1100 year tradition, (older in some places), that will probably take longer to change although there are voices calling for that change, now.
In the U.S., the number of Catholics expressing openness to Same Sex Marriage exceeds 50%.

This. And did you know that there’s a WWE wrestler that goes by the moniker “The Progressive Liberal”? Not exclusive a heel, but he takes on the heel role in conservative venues. He’s known for things like wearing a Hillary sweatshirt and yelling “You’re voting against your own self interest!

Also, Hillary reminded too many guys of their ex-wife.

(My emphasis)
That’s actually 33 (going on 34), not 23, years ago.

Crazy, I know.

I own a fairly large pro wrestling discussion community. the majority of the membership is minority men. I would say most are apolitical but many love heels and even WWE hall of Famer Donald Trump. Any time Hulk Hogan is mentioned, there is a lot of passionate defense of his racist statements.

I am not sure if this is true or not, but I DO know that many white males (in the podcast/Youtube/social “influencer”/minor party ideology/political pundit spheres) who previously opposed most of Trump’s agenda and personality became pro-Trumpers for the $$$ and notoriety. So, it seems reasonable that some minorities did as well and it would be a lot easier to stand out and get speaking invites and media gigs/book deals, etc.

There is no evidence (and indeed the 2018 election provides lots of counter-evidence) that this meme has gained any traction among significant numbers of voters.

I was born in Peru and lived there until I was a teenager before moving to the States. I do not support Trump but I know of people in my same position who do. What most don’t get is that the same white/brown/black separation exists in almost every country. As a light skinned hispanic of mostly European descent I was “white” in Peru. A lot of the people you think of as “minorities” think of themselves as white because that’s how they’ve seen themselves and been treated their whole lives. Then they move here and they get lumped in with the rest of the minorities because they have brown skin, a latino name and a spanish accent. This is a HUGE culture shock for a lot of them, plenty of them simply flee back to their country of origin because they can’t deal with it. For others they simply try to adopt the characteristics of what they think the “white” majority would be, thus their support of Trump. That’s the most common answer in my experience, they don’t want to be lumped with the rest of the minorities.

Again: Record low unemployment for blacks and hispanics. Salaries for the working class rising faster than they have in at least a decade. Illegal immigration (which disproportionally affects American blacks and hispanics) down 78%.

Exactly why shouldn’t they support Trump? If Obama had delivered those results, you’d all be praising his administration.

Whether Trump’s actions caused these changes or not is beside the point. Presidents get the credit and the blame for what goes on under their watch. And right now, these are the best economic years blacks and hispanics have seen since at least 2007.

The vast majority don’t support Trump. Based on my conversations with them, the reasons are not surprising - his praise for white supremacists, his other racist and ignorant rhetoric, his years spreading a racist and evidence free conspiracy theory, etc.

Looking through history, black folks in America have generally been right about which white politicians to trust and which ones not to trust. I see no reason to believe that all of a sudden they’re getting it wrong.

If you think someone would support an openly racist president just because things are (arguably) good for them economically you are out of your mind. And Obama DID deliver those results.

As a Hispanic, **again** :p, what **iiandyiiii** said. What you demand really is that many Hispanics should become shallow or greedy in that they should only look at their wallets and ignore racist and silly things coming from the ones in power,

One silly thing is the implied item that “logically” immigrants should not be allowed when blacks and Hispanics are most affected regarding jobs when more immigrants come, problem is that it is [nonsense](https://www.cato.org/blog/why-unemployment-lower-when-immigration-higher) when one realizes that even with all the efforts made by Trump there are still a lot of recent immigrants in the USA and… there is record low unemployment.

And as another Latino, I have observed firsthand that a number, vastly outnumbered but not insignificantly negligible either, of other Latinos \*\*\*ARE \*\*\*already looking at their perceived material benefit first, or putting Party or Leader before country, and disregarding the racist and silly things. These are actual living people, I did not hallucinate them.

A majority of Black and Latino voters \*\*\*do not \*\*\*support Trump. But a surprising percentage of a minority thereof DO. We don’t figure out why and how to disabuse them of that error by insisting on that it shouldn’t be even possible to begin with.

This isn’t true. Trump essentially has the same Black and Latino support as GOP candidates have had nationally since the 90’s.

EDIT: I guess you could argue it’s surprising he’s not worse than other GOP candidates, but he doesn’t have an uncharacteristically high amount of support.
