# Minty green is a hypocrite, and Gaudere was wrong

This was in response to a crack I made about Beeblebrox needing to “get something through his thick skulls”. I will grant that my choice of phrase was uncivil, but I didn’t directly call anyone anything, and if I did commit any infraction, it was no greater than what typically takes place in Great Debates and did not merit Gaudere’s misuse of discretionary power. Gaudere should have posted a general warning, and I have been treated unfairly.
As for minty green, who has taken it upon her/himself to be the Martha Stewart of the board by admonishing people not to be “jerks”, she posted this…

…in response to a double jibe about her politeness police warning posts and the nickname of a poster. Apparently the big yellow grinning face next to the post was not enough to indicate to m.g. that the content in my post was intended to be humorous and taken with a grain of salt, and in return, he/she acted like a jerk in return.
Learn some humor, minty green. It is perfectly possible to conduct a serious discussion while still allowing for an occasional comedic moment.

Am I supposed to be insulted by that? I’m certain that was your intent, but all I feel is underwhelmed by the vapidity of your crude retort and pity for the vapidity of your crude intellect. Good grief, I’ve heard better zings from a five-year-old! I mean, for goodness’ sake, can’t you do any better? I thought this pit was for barbequing, not gnat-biting. That was the wordiest spin on the old “Ha ha, it was so funny I forgot to laugh” line I’ve ever seen. What happened to saving bandwidth?

First, about **Gaudere** ’s remark:
It is rather common knowledge that personal insults are not allowed beyond the Pit. You say there should have been a warning? Well, **Gaudere** warned you. Now you know. No harm, no foul. Now that you know the rules, just don’t do it again. Why is all this necessary? You feel it’s common in GD and other threads have that sort of thing? Well the mods can’t read every post of every thread. Some stuff slips through, but rules is still rules.
Second, about **minty green** :
Many posters, and not just **mg** , will take it upon themselves to point out board rules, accepted etiquette, etc to members who may not seem to fully grasp how we do things around here. You may see it as someone being a self-appointed Martha Stewart, others see it as a poster helping someone else learn the ropes.
Now your registration date is a year old, if you’ve been lurking all this time, it would seem you should know all this by now.

One, I disliked being singled out for warning when there were other, and more egregious, examples that could have been cited. Two, I know the rules, and I don’t feel that I broke them. I bent them, perhaps, but I didn’t flout them. Three, the personal insult in question was not ad hominem but in reference to a poster failing to acknowledge in any fashion a repeatedly made point by myself and many others, indicating to me that the poster in question was intellectually deficient and deserved to be ignored.

One, like you said, I have had plenty of time to see how things are done around here, so I feel that what I posted didn’t deviate too greatly from the norm. Two, there’s nothing worse than someone who goes around calling people “jerks” and then acts like a jerk herself/himself.

**struct** - you seem to be able to have a sense of humor about yourself, and generally were posting cogent things.
don’t get all twisted up about what is, bottom line, a relatively mild rebuke.
the line is ‘who you are’ vs. what you say. ‘that’s the dumbest thing I’ve seen here’ is about what someone said. "you’re the dumbest poster I’ve seen’ is who you are.
I will admit that sometime the lines get blurry, since references to some one’s apparent reading comprehension generally get a pass, but, even if it was blurry, just let it slide, it wasn’t that big of a deal IMHO.
