After covering the origin of the Miranda warning during the arrest process in a CJ class I took, the professor proceeded to tell us an amusing anecdote concerning Mr. Miranda’s ultimate fate. Miranda, it seems, was murdered in a bar fight and in a twist, which seemed to me just a bit too much like literary poetic justice, the arresting officers had forgotten to read the perpetrator _his_ Miranda rights. He was never convicted. Law types, veracity please?

Ernesto Miranda was indeed murdered. A suspect was picked up, but wasn’t convicted. Most accounts indicate that the suspect **was** read his rights, and did not confess to anything, so he went free.
