I always thought “lavatory” was amusing.
And then there’s WC.
At least WC (water closet) refers specifically to the toilet.
Back to the subject, my office is closed today because of fears that there might be protests that turn violent. The courthouse where this happened is very close by.
Everyone is entitled to defend themselves in court and we allow a jury to determine if people are guilty, and we need to let the law play out. But it’s hard not to feel like this is rotten.
“The biggest reason why I personally think this jury found reasonable doubt is because the defense was essentially allowed to put Manny Ellis on trial,” Ericksen said via email. “The defense attorneys were allowed to dredge up Manny’s past and repeat to the jury again and again Manny’s prior arrests in 2015 and 2019. That unfairly prejudiced jurors against Manny.”
At the very least I hope the cops involved aren’t still in the department after this.
The City of Tacoma said in a statement that the verdicts will not affect an internal police department investigation and once its findings are approved by Chief Avery Moore, he’ll make any decisions about possible discipline, “up to and including termination.” That is expected to happen within the next two weeks.
And the family did sue for wrongful death and get a settlement previously.
The Ellis family settled a federal wrongful death lawsuit against Pierce County, which is home to Tacoma, for $4 million last year.
But it doesn’t feel like justice to me.
ETA: Gah, this wasn’t meant to be a reply to @kayaker, freaking Discourse.
And there’s always “the shitter”.

Vulgar but at least plain language.
Don’t forget terlet.
# They Were Wrongfully Convicted. Now They’re Denied Compensation Despite Michigan Law.
The conviction integrity unit in a prosecutor’s office had recommended Cotton’s release after finding that his trial was fundamentally unfair, marred by police misconduct that resulted in key evidence being withheld. His case represented a clear injustice,
Police misconduct, prosecutorial misconduct, lying ass motherfuckers wrongly convict an innocent man (meaning they ain’t looking for the guilty man anymore, if they ever cared about that) took more than a decade of this guys life and screwing him out of what he is entitled to.
You CANNOT trust cops.
“Toilet” is the things one does upon awakening, such as bathing and putting on fragrance. “Loo” is from “lieu”, for “the place”. There really isn’t any neutral term for either that appliance or for the room it’s found in: They’re all either vulgarisms or euphemisms.
Like many words, toilet can and does mean two things. One of those is the thing that you sit on.
The law was apparently too narrowly framed for this person to qualify, which seems to make it a poorly made law. I would blame the lawmakers before I blamed cops for the denial of the claim. Of course, the original travesty still strongly qualifies for this thread.
I’m not big on euphemisms, but I can’t think of a straight forward was of saying it that isn’t sort of rude in most situations. I’m going to the bowel movement, void room? A bit tmi for many social situations.
There is no way to say it bluntly without being rude. That’s why there are so many euphemisms.
It’s like saying, I don’t know how to stab your eyeball with a salad fork without injuring you. That’s because there isn’t such a thing. So don’t do it unless you have to, or there is some situation where for some reason it’s appropriate.
I think I saw in a Dr. Seuss Cartoon/ or read in a Seuss book, where it was called, “The Euphemisim.” I’d use that, but I doubt anyone would get it.
“Excuse me, I have to go take a euphy.”
lol, I like that!
I just say “head”. Most people get it.
I haven’t gotten any for quite a few years…
I’ve seen “The Necessary”.
