I love the caption of that photo “It is unknown how long the dye will stay on…” like it is some of some importance. This is actually a big news story? ---

At the risk of starting something (a trend, perhaps?), I will point out that Kool-Aid makes an excellent [dye](http://www.alpacabytes.com/2009/06/30/how-to-dye-alpaca-fiber-with-kool-aid/) for natural fibers, including human hair. ---

As long as the dye’s not toxic to the animal, I don’t see anything wrong with it. In fact, as other people have pointed out, it’s quite cute. ---

I know somebody who has a chihuahua that is black and white…right now, though, she’s black and purple. There’s at least one line of non-toxic pet dye on the market on this side of the Atlantic, at least. I think it’s silly at best, but if the dye is harmless, I don’t think will hurt anything but the cat’s dignity. ---

My rage: it does not burn. I saw this this morning. My office reckons that it was dyed pink as a party accessory, it freaked and ran away - that’s why whoever dyed it was careful to avoid the eyes, and why it doesn’t have a collar. I imagine that if that woman hadn’t dumped a cat in a bin the other week this would be even less of a story. One thing I was curious about is how they know the cat was ‘thrown over a garden fence’. Did the property owners see it come flying over, or is the garden so inacessable a cat couldn’t make its way over on its own? ---

That gives me an idea. The cat that pees in my front bushes doesn’t seem to learn from the squirt gun, it’s time to load the super soaker with beet juice. ---

I believe that the outrage is because someone tossed the cat over a wall. That they also dyed it pink (or that the owner from who the cat was stolen did) just means that this particular thrown-away cat happens to be photogenic. I don’t think that the dye is meant to add to the outrage. ---

The only thing I could think of while reading that is, how the hell do you get a cat to stand still long enough to dye its fur and not get a house covered in fur dye? I think dying a cat would do more damage to your house than the cat, frankly. ---
