When I was a kid, I thought the Supremes were singing, “Stop in the name of the law.” And when Pearl Jam’s “w.m.a.” came out, I swore Eddie Vedder was singing “Rolled 5 virgins on a pelican”. ---

I too thought the line from “The Boxer” was “the war zone Seventh Avenue,” implying that gangs would often rumble there… In a 1969 song, “And When I Die” is the line “And here I go!” I used to think it was “The hell I don’t!” In the 60s song Little Honda it sounded as if the refrain was “Her ears is all right…” 😃 * * * “If you drive an automobile, please drive carefully–because I walk in my sleep.”–Victor Borge ---

I can’t believe no one brought this up (maybe it was just a select group of us at a particular high school) but when Salt 'n Pepa released the song “Push It,” we could have sworn they were saying, “Ah, this is bullshit.” I’m not kidding. We walked to cheerleading practice saying that and received three days detention for our “translation of popular culture song lyrics.” Exact words from our principal. On second thought, maybe this thread ought to be renamed to the previously mentioned “Things you wouldn’t admit to in public.” ---
