Moderator comment: Yeah, this is a topic that’s been discussed before. There are times when it’s best to revive the old thread to continue the discussion; there are times when it’s just fine to start a thread anew… at least, in Cafe Society Forum. Other forums care more about resurrections than does Cafe Society. Basically, I don’t see it as an issue either way (a few folks have reported this one.) Since we have a Mod’s blessing, I was discussing one last night with **Lizard Queen** , about what Mick Jagger is _really_ singing during that bit in “Sympathy for the Devil” and came up with a new possibilty: I made the scene, When your Kings and Queens Walked on Tastycakes, For the guys that stink. even though I know it’s I watched with glee while your Kings and Queens warred for ten decades for the gods they made. Still sounds more like ‘for the gods, they think’ Lyrics are fun ---

There’s this song by Billy Joel or Elton John or somebody which contains the line “heart attack-ack-ack-ack-ack.” Anyway, in that song, there’s a line that goes “across from the medical center.” What I always hear is: “Across from Banana Placenta.” (Also, I could swear I’ve seen this thread active on the board quite recently, like over the past couple of months. Was there some other similar thread I may be remembering?) -FrL- ---

When I was a kid, I was certain that the Peter Gabriel song _Shock the Monkey_ was about a monkey named Jacques. Also, in the song _Every Breath You Take_ I always heard the line “how my poor heart aches…” as “I’m a pool hall ace…”. ---

I grew up listening to country because it was my mother’s favorite. So there were at least three that I often misheard (that I remember)… Kenny Roger – You Picked a Fine Time To Leave Me Lucille Why? Because there was _400 children_ and crops in the field, dammit. Or as it’s really known: “four hungry children.” Either way, that’s a lot of kids. [Terri Gibbs](http://www.songlyrics.com/song-lyrics/Terri_Gibbs/Miscellaneous/Somebody_s_Knocking_(1981)/250591.html) – Somebody’s Knocking It seems that she heard "Somebody’s knocking should I let him in Lord it’s the devil would you look at him I’ve heard about him but I never dreamed He’d have blue eyes and blue jeans but to good ol’ mum, her repressed sexual self (and mine too I guess, but hey, I was like 12 or sumpin’) understood Ms. Gibb to say “He’d have blue eyes and _tight_ (!!) jeans” and had this wistful look in her eyes. Last but not least, as a mere pup, I thought the song the [Mel Tillis](http://www.martylloyd.com/artist_m/mel_tillis_lyrics/sawmill_lyrics.html) song said “Pussy on a poor boy”! instead of the more tame “_Mercy_ ona [said] poor boy” and I’m telling you, that there is no absolutely no doubt in clouded mine that I was referring to a kitty cat. Well pervs, what else would I be talking about, huh?? Hell, I hadn’t even started kindergarten yet, so get yer filthy brains out ta gutter. 😃 ---

Doug & Bob MacKenzie were very popular around the same time I first heard Rush’s “Beneath, Between, & Behind”. As I didn’t own the _Fly By Night_ album and it’s accompanying lyric sheet, I heard the chorus as: Beneath the noble fir Between the brown-haired squirrels Behind the beauty racks of beer It’s actually: Beneath the noble bird Between the proudest words Behind the beauty, cracks appear Yes, I misheard every line, testament to Geddy’s enunciation in 1975. I heard “noble fir” because growing up in Washington state, I was surrounded by several species of fir trees. I simply misheard the second line. For the third line, see my comment about Doug & Bob and the fact that Rush is Canadian. ---

There was an R&B song that was big in 2005 or so titled “Living My Life Like It’s Golden,” which I somehow kept hearing (and still do even now that I know the real words) as “Even My Backpack Is Stolen.” ---
