[“God is a hedge against inflation.” Meaning?](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/gold-is-a-hedge-against-inflation-meaning/1010458)

The idea might be trust in a god should give one an edge,  
To keep one’s fortune from plunging off a ledge.  
I would not be so sure of any grand plan,  
For even the gods themselves are subject to the invisible hand.
