Well, he owns the pageant, and supposedly Miss USA is intended to be a wholesome role model. I don’t care, I figure that if you’re going to go along with those beauty pageants, you better follow the rules if you want to keep the cash, apartment, etc. ---

Donald Trump can absolve the sins of pageant winners? It’s a shame Donald doesn’t own the Miss America pageant- one wonders how Vanessa Williams’s career would have been different if she had got off the hook for “click-click,” as Krusty once so elequently put it. ---

So she cant drink but she can encourage young girls to become obsessed with their looks? Vanity is much worse a crime than drinking underage. Of course taking any drug, regardless of your age and what the drug is, should never be a crime. Unless somehow taking it harms others. Lower the fucking drinking age already. Having a higher drinking age then the rest of the world just makes youth a crime and further alienates young people from society. People are always going to take drugs to feel good and it is futile to stop them. By making taking recreational drugs a crime it drives them underground and encourages recklessness. Oh, the uncapped power congress can extract from states by threatning to withhold money from the interstate highway system. I wonder what they will force on states tomorrow. :rolleyes: ---

While I generally think beauty pageants are an abomination, if she is expected (as a contestant and winner) to adhere to certain rules of decorum—however Pollyanna-ish they might seem relative to a “normal” young American woman’s behavior—and she breaks them in a blatant and public way, then what should one predict the reaction to be? ---

She’s entering rehab. **Rehab** for partying a bit underage! She just turned 21. She would have been legally drinking for 2 years here, and probably illegally for the 2 previous years, if she’s like most high school kids. The rest of the world should be in rehab then. You Americans are certainly a different lot. Rehab here would indicate a severe alcohol problem, say multiple DUIs, or an enlarged liver from years of heavy drinking: not clubbing it and having what otherwise could be called a “good time.” Poor girl, ahh woman.
