Sheer, baseless paranoia, Grey. The Yemeni army already has Scuds, and by all accounts they’re still in their inventory. Wouldn’t be the first time a country spends tons of money on a pointless weapon system for purposes of ego and prestige. The Yemenis now have bigger dicks than the Djiboutis. Hooray for Yemen.
True but they had them when Yemen was split and were used by both sides. This makes a certain amount of sense. Lob a few north, send a few south and watch the fireworks
My question is why? I’ll assume (most likely wrongly :)) that Yemen reasonably wants to defend itself in the best manner possible. What threats require a missile that apparently can’t reach anyone threatening Yemen, from Yemen?
My inference that Yemen is acting as a middleman is not wildly unreasonable. It’s also not necessarily right either. I also am not saying that the end user could be terrorists, hell it coud be Sudan. I just haven’t heard (or been able to think up) a good justification for the purchase. But you’re right; it could be an expensive chest thumping. Whoo Hoo Yemen!
No, they bought the ones they have in the last couple of years, according to the reports.
Ok. I checked around a bit. Apparently minty green is right about Yemen having Scuds previously. I thought they only had them from the period of the short civil war in 1994.
According to this report

Yemen had 50 Scud or Scud like weapons in 1996. Chest thumping it is then. <Exit stage left>
