Yes, after she gave a physical description that matched Richard Ricci, who was hounded to death, and did not match “Emmanuel”.
What this has to do with the Kansas City case under discussion, I can’t begin to imagine.

Well, the KC PD has obtained a warrant to search the parent’s home without them present:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/10/19/us-crime-baby-missing-idUSTRE79I57420111019.
The mother needs to cooperate more with the police, if she was not involved in the baby’s disappearance as she claims.
It’s really very odd… the cell phone thing. Why haven’t the police tracked the phones? (Or more to the point, why haven’t they reported their findings? Because the findings are not interesting? or because they are VERY interesting?)
So let’s say that Mom was drunk, maybe entertaining someone she shouldn’t have been, while Dad was working the night shift. I can see why they were interested in reviewing video of Mom purchasing wine (Maybe somebody saw a convenient crime target and followed her home?) but since they didn’t announce anything of the kind…
Assuming the “intruder” theory holds any water, we’re looking for someone who either knew the family well enough to know that Dad was starting the night shift, and that Mom is a drinker (Anyone who knows the family THAT well should have been fingered by now, one would think.) or ELSE just happened to wander along at the right time and place to snatch the baby and destroy and/or hide the cell phones, and hit the road, with nobody noticing. If it was a baby-seeker, you’re looking at a situation in which NOBODY in their life has noticed or gotten suspicious about a new baby with Lisa Irwin’s distinctive looks showing up suddenly? After this long? It just sounds utterly bizarre and unlikely.
On the other hand, you’ve got the “Mom did it” theory. Mom gets drunk, (with her BROTHER?) passes out, and she rolls over on the baby and smothers her while sleep-nursing, maybe, or else she’s a mean drunk and hurts the baby on purpose for crying in the middle of the night, maybe. Then she does… what, exactly? with the baby? She panics, she gets in her car, leaves the two young boys alone in the house, takes the batteries out of the cell phones and/or destroys them somehow, drives somewhere and disposes of the body, most likely nearby, in a manner that still hasn’t been discovered, this many days later? It sounds utterly bizarre and unlikely.
Because the point of an investigation is not to feed the public rumor mill.
You know that it’s highly likely that the dingoes really did eat her baby, right? (Wiki link with reputable cites).
One change in routine often leads to other changes. That’s not suspicious in itself. It doesn’t sound good for the parents overall though.
To answer the OP: Caroline Dickinson was raped and murdered by a stranger in her bed while on a school trip and surrounded by several sleeping teenagers. If that can happen, then silently kidnapping a baby seems a lot more plausible.
I wouldn’t think of this a cause for worrying about your kids being kidnapped or raped in their beds, but closing a window is also not that onerous if it eases your wife’s mind.
Thank you, SF!
The cadaver-dog picking up a scent in the house, and supposedly some disturbed soil in the yard, seem to tip the scales slightly more against the mom. The drunken-nursing-sleep-crush idea mentioned above sounds pretty plausible, but we’ll see.
Babys cry when people they don’t know pick them up or when they are disturbed from sleeping comfortablt so either the mom is deaf or they baby new the person
The latest developments, if true, do not bode well for this poor little girl. I was so encouraged when I heard there were witnesses that saw a man with a baby not dressed properly, but now I just don’t know.
If the parents did kill her, I sure hope it was an accident at least.
This child may be dead and buried in the backyard, but a dog barking and disturbed soil aren’t strong indications of that. Dogs can’t speak English and tell you why they bark, and most yards have some disturbed soil.
Yeah, I get that too. I’m not informed enough on the cadaver dog topic to begin with, so I’m not putting a ton of stock in it.
I truly just don’t know what to think about this whole case.
Clearly there is a high probability that the mother is involved in the death/disappearance based on other cases, and her unusual reaction and responses, and irresponsible-ish behavior. So I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to hear she’s the culprit. But the so called evidence is weak and unconvincing so far. And it is also simply media reports and rumors.
But that’s the most fun type of evidence. Otherwise there’s not much to gossip about.
I agree. This thread should be somewhere else. Here in GD I feel compelled to argue.
