This Netflix movie, starring a fine young actress, is about a teenager whose mother and boyfriend never return from a trip to Columbia. She embarks on a crusade to find out what happened, and the truth is full of twists, turns, and surprises! I strongly recommend it but, if you watch it, make sure you are wide awake and alert!

Watched it last week and absolutely loved it. I thought the style of filming (everything is shown on people’s screens) would be distracting, but it really worked. I did not anticipate the big reveal.

She is a teenager at home and everything that happened transpired remotely, so all her research, contacts and general efforts had to be done via her computer.

Yes, and cellphone screens are used to advance the story as well. Very cool technique.

Is it purely fictional, or a “based on a true story” production?

It is fictional, but the online methodologies and social media she used were accurately portrayed.

I’m not threadshitting, but I will voice a contradictory opinion. I found this movie boring and disappointing. It is a spiritual sequel to “Searching”, but I found Searching to be the much better movie. It’s hard to put my finger on it, but this movie just never grabbed me.

I did not love Searching, but it was good and if you liked Missing, you should see the movie they made before it. Everything is on screen in that one, too.

> Searching is a 2018 American screenlife mystery thriller film directed by Aneesh Chaganty in his feature debut, written by Chaganty and Sev Ohanian and produced by Timur Bekmambetov. Set entirely on computer screens and smartphones, the film follows a father (John Cho) trying to find his missing 16-year-old daughter (Michelle La) with the help of a police detective (Debra Messing). This was the first mainstream Hollywood thriller headlined by an Asian-American actor.

Yes! I knew there was another movie that used screens. Maybe I’ll watch it now. I started watching it but found the screen thing too much of a gimmick, so I only saw the first few minutes.

I’d ask you to elaborate, but that would be a spoiler. The whole charm of this movie is not knowing what’s going to happen next.

I really liked the style of the movie but did not like “who done it”. Felt like a weak twist, to me.
