When I saw the rope, it made me think that the video could be of the recent rescues. But then, I’m sure the fat guide rope thing has been done before, even if it is not typical. ---

But you’re probably right- I wasn’t sure myself initially and I haven’t found confirmation., so now I doubt it. Wonder what it is though! ---

Amazing job by a very skilled team of divers and rescue personnel. Very happy that the entire team and coach are safe. Hopefully the doctor and Thai Seals will emerge soon. ---

French narration on that video, so maybe a francophone Doper can translate a bit. From looking at the equipment on the divers in the video it looks consistent with what we know about the Thai rescue. The person on the stretcher is breathing through a full face mask, for example. One died a hero. The guy who first found him, suppose he had said “this is too far, I can’t make it back from here” and turned around? So much selfless bravery on the part of so many. The British team of divers were literally out of line and preparing to turn around when they initially found the trapped kids. Both the divers and the kids could be said to have been at the end of their rope. ---

I can’t believe how happy I am to have been wrong at their prospects and how ignorant I was about the capabilities of the rescue team. I thought there was no way. That the rains would come, the water level would rise and then game over. What a heartbreak that one person did lose his life. I hope he gets a school named after him. ---

It wasn’t so much doubt about their capabilities as it was concern about the magnitude of the problem. Those kids were _really_ deep in that cave, weakened by starvation, and the monsoon rains were coming; when they were first found, it surely didn’t seem realistic to expect that they’d all make it out, even with the best resources available. Glad they took their time sorting it all out; careful planning and staging of rescuers and supplies along the route likely played a huge factor. ---
