> I don’t understand how someone capable of making it through the most demanding military training on earth, could turn out to be such a bitch…pissing away his whole career by trying to take cheap shortcuts, to say nothing of his sordid sex life that may or may not have actually happened. None of these stupid bastards ever seem to have the slightest bit of concern for all the people who work for them, or the government they’re supposed to be working _for,_ or how unbelievably disruptive it is to everyone around them when they publicly fuck up like this. He is a worthless bastard, just another one of a long line of people who treat high political office like a trophy rather than a job.

IMO, that last line is your answer to your first line puzzlement. It takes a highly goal-motivated individual to get through that training, as an achievement to be prized; but the person’s moral core is not transformed by the training, it’s either there or not. Sometimes, someone slips in who looks at it as _proof they are superior_, and will give their all for that – then afterwards look at professional success as another score to be attained, BUT since it is so much “easier”, \*he will not respect it \*and will see the rules of Civvie Street as made for the weak.

The St. Louis prosecutor [dropped the remaining charge](https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/30/politics/eric-greitens-missouri-felony-charge-dropped/index.html) against Greitens after he announced his resignation. The reasoning given (that he’s unlikely to face jail time as a first offender) seems a little week, so I wonder if this was an informal agreement/plea bargain to avoid having to deal with a politically charged and possibly difficult case. I seem to recall a similar arrangement with Alabama’s former Gov. Bentley, where he agreed to step down, plea to some misdemeanor counts and agree to be barred from further political office in exchange for felony charges being dropped.

[Yes, according to the prosecutor’s spokesperson](http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/governor-s-attorneys-approached-st-louis-prosecutor-with-deal-he/article_0dc2964a-9f07-5d50-a3b4-c5ffd71bd6c6.html). In fact, it was the Governor’s high-priced legal team that offered the deal.

But it’s not an “informal” agreement. [It says right in the document that the deal won’t take effect until the Governor’s resignation is official.](http://www.stltoday.com/online/agreement-between-greitens-and-gardner-s-office/pdf_ca6ad145-99dd-5a98-a6e8-6aec786b9155.html)

According to the story, Greitens’ lawyers suggested the deal on Saturday. Before that came out, the prevailing thought was that a judge’s ruling earlier on Tuesday had been the catalyst for the resignation. It turns out the Gov. and his team had been ready to throw in the towel 72 hours earlier.

I saw that [there was a denouement in this](https://apnews.com/b8b84b315ff3437e87a77393f3cb47cc/Missouri-denies-legal-bills-for-lawyers-of-ex-Gov.-Greitens) that IMO can only be described as “hilarious”:

> [@](#):
>
> A top Missouri official has decided not to pay the legal bills for attorneys who represented former Gov. Eric Greitens’ office against potential impeachment proceedings.
>
> Office of Administration Commissioner Sarah Steelman said Thursday that it appears the primary beneficiary of their work was Greitens individually and that the attorneys weren’t needed for the governor’s office itself.
>
> Steelman provided The Associated Press copies of letters denying $118,000 of invoices from Eddie Greim’s Kansas City-based firm and $64,000 from Connecticut-based attorney Ross Garber.

Ehh, more of a twist than a dénouement. A dénouement has something of the air of finality to it.

You just _know_ that Greitens is going to take this decision to court, thus keeping his name in the papers for at least a few more months.

To take it to court, he’d need to continue to have a legal team. A legal team which is now facing a very high probability of never getting paid. Good luck with that one.

Ohh, now that’s a parting shot for you… “guess what, you’ve buggered yourself AND will have to pay for it out of pocket”.

Why do I get the feeling that had he made things easy and gone away when he was asked nicely and before they incurred high expenses, they may have let it slide.

[Trump’s charity donated $75K to Greitens’ charity.](http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article213176089.html)

So, one charity accused of being used inappropriately for political campaign purposes donates a big chunk of money to another charity accused of being used inappropriately for political campaign purposes. Anyone surprised?
