Missouri state senate moving bill that would effectively eliminate child labor laws in that state?

Wait, aren’t small family farms and family-run shops exempted anyway from many of the reporting and permitting requirements, or is the current MO law absolute? I know that the law around here makes that provision, as long as it doesn’t interfere with schoolwork, and stays clear of the “safety or morals” clause, there’s no prob with the kid helping feed the chickens or water the plants.

It’s one thing that parents should be free to give their kids chores to do around the family home/farm/shop in order to help out the parents, build character, and learn the family trade (and a good thing that is too, RickJay ). Child Labor laws are meant to prevent minors, who legally are not free to contract on their own behalf or manage their own money, from being treated as a cheap (or even outright indentured) labor resource or extra income source by their guardians, or by those who may be able to wield economic power over the minors or their guardians, to the detriment of their education and general well-being.

Right off the bat I don’t see what’s the problem that this bill is supposed to fix.
