Good one! I always assumed he just really liked that phrase — that it crystallized the idea better than the other ones.

In his recording of _Luck Be a Lady Tonight_, he also flubs a line because he can’t decide to call Luck a girl or a dame.  
“Luck let a gentleman see  
How nice a g… a dame you can be”
