There are a lot of regular posters left out of the cliquish SDMD Mistletoe thread. Now, while the Touchy Feely thing is so not me, and I have no interest in my name appearing, I am sad that some people who have taken the time to reply to my questions are not there because I know they reply to a lot of other people as well. Thank you and a Merry Christmas to Spoofe Bo Diddly, Sofa King, ArchiveGuy and all the people who have said something to me (positive or negative) over the last months. Especially thank you to the posters in my Experiencing snowstorms and blizzards thread. If this thread has any further purpose perhaps it would be to add other names omitted from Mistletoe threads. P.S. My daddy was a Druid, so I know. ---

Have you ever _seen_ mistletoe? Ugly, ugly plant. Which is why they dye it bright green and atatch plastic berries to it for Christmas. If you saw some growing in your yard, you’d throw it in the trash like it was some ugly parasitic weed. Which it is. ---

A Happy Christmas to you, too, G.Nome. You’re right about mistletoe; ugly, nasty stuff. As a kid I thought holly _was_ mistletoe, mostly because you see a lot more of it and it’s pretty. (Have some holly bushes growing outside my window, as a matter of fact.) Dark, glossy green leaves year-round, bright red berries… And then I saw some mistletoe. Bleeech! Mangy lookin’ leaves with disgusting, rotted looking, waxy bleached out blobs attached. What a letdown. It may have long folk tradition, but it’s about as appealing as getting kissed under a bundle of skunk cabbage. So here’s a warm smile–under a holly branch–to my fellow Dopers. Veb ---

Mistletoe comes from a phrase which basically translates to “shit on a stick”. And so we make out underneath it. Yeah. ---
