Poor communication happens a lot here. Way more than I would expect from a message board primarily comprising of folks who are clearly a good bit more intelligent than the common rabble. Of course, intelligence does not always correlate with comminication skills. You can see that here on the SDMB. Many times I’ll come across a post mentioning the poster’s location, with a, “Around here…” or, “In my city…”. _Not_ so many times I’ll come acoss that same poster telling us what and where that place is. And some people still throw up initialisms and acronyms that few people would have reason to know. You could just look it up but then again, you could also do that with foreign language phrases not commonly known outside the language’s users. ---

The OP is about people having very different perspectives, and reading different meaning into the same words. Whereas you are more talking about the level of detail you wish other people would use in discussing stuff with you. ---

Then the person I was bathing said “oh brother, worry about yourself”. So she left. To be clear this is just another nurse aide. Not somebody I answer to. If it was a manager I would of course listen without the attitude. I’m just done. They don’t care about being rude to me so I’m done trying to keep the peace. But I’m going to try to not be rude but just keep remembering that they don’t matter so don’t engage. ---

Everyone in my family does this thing where they answer the question they think I’m asking, not the very straightforward question that I’m actually asking. These are simple questions with concrete answers, like if they like a certain kind of food. In their minds, somehow it becomes a different question with answers that don’t help with the decision I’m trying to make. I’m sure there’s a good psychological explanation for this, but I don’t know what’s going on in their heads.
