So, if he does have to resign because of his health, and the governor must appoint a Republican replacement, that person won’t inherit any of McConnell’s seniority, won’t be able to employ the power the Turtle had accumulated. ---

No but … Assuming they run in the 2024 special election as the incumbent and wins they would have seniority over all of those new Senators and would be a shoo-in for the 2026 regular election. ---

I have no doubt the moneyed interests will pick someone awful who does their bidding. The only benefit is much of the power in congress runs on seniority. A new guy will take years to get where McConnell is. ---
